  • KSI once answered his teacher's question about quitting college with a single figure: around Β£1,500 a month, earned from YouTube. That, he said, was more than the teacher took home. He recounted the exchange in a 2014 interview. The teenager who asked the question, born Olajide Olayinka Williams "JJ" Olatunji, did leave. As of April 2026, his four active YouTube channels hold over 46 million subscribers and 16 billion video views.

Those numbers describe only the first act. KSI is also a musician with a number-one album, a former professional boxer, and a co-owner of companies that sell everything from sports drinks to boxing pay-per-view events. He is now a television judge as well.

How does a teenager commentating on a football video game from his bedroom build all of that? What did it cost him along the way? And what happens to a career built on rivalry when the rivals turn into business partners?

  • On the 19th of June 1993, Olajide Olatunji was born in London, and he grew up in Watford, Hertfordshire. His family is of Yoruba heritage, and his mother, Olayinka, comes from Islington. He attended Reddiford School in Pinner and then Berkhamsted School, where he met Simon Minter, a future collaborator. His younger brother, Deji Olatunji, also became a YouTuber and a professional boxer, once known as ComedyShortsGamer. In 2015, Tubular Labs ranked the brothers first and second among the UK's most influential YouTube creators.

In 2008, while still in his early teens, KSI registered a first YouTube account under the username JideJunior. On the 24th of July 2009 he registered the account he still uses, then called KSI Olajide BT. From his bedroom in his parents' Watford house, he uploaded commentary on the FIFA football video game series. The name KSI stands for Knowledge Strength Integrity, a phrase borrowed from a Halo clan.

His parents first disapproved of his decision to leave college. They later came round and appeared in a number of his videos. By 2012, as he added vlogs and a wider range of games, the channel passed a million subscribers.

That same year brought the first serious trouble. A recurring joke on his channel drew wide criticism through 2012 and 2013. Third parties also alleged that he had sexually harassed female staff at a Eurogamer event in 2012. Microsoft cut ties with him, and he was banned from Eurogamer events. KSI apologised for any offence the video may have caused. He said he wanted to move on and be judged on the value he gave to brands and partners.

Within a year of that ban, he had signed with a network and joined a group of friends who would reshape his career.

  • In October 2013, KSI signed with Polaris, a sub-network of Maker Studios. Since the 19th of October 2013 he has also belonged to the Sidemen, a British YouTube group. The group makes challenges, sketches and video-game commentary, and sells its own merchandise.

In July 2014, KSI and Comedy Central UK launched KSI: Demolished, a five-episode web series. Comedians including Kojo, Michelle de Swarte, Bobby Mair and Alex Lowe took turns roasting him. The next month, a Variety survey placed him fourth among the most popular personalities with American teenagers. In October 2014 he signed with MLG.tv, a streaming service focused on gaming and esports.

In September 2015, Business Insider ranked him 15th among the most popular YouTubers in the world. By November 2016 it named him the biggest British YouTube star. The Sunday Times put him second on its 2019 list of the top 100 UK influencers, and The Times called him Britain's biggest influencer in 2020. Forbes listed him in its 30 Under 30 Europe entertainment category in April 2021. In September 2023 it named him the second top creator of the year, with estimated earnings of $24 million. In July 2024 he joined a MrBeast video challenge titled "50 YouTubers Fight for $1,000,000".

On the 4th of August 2017, KSI tweeted that he was leaving the Sidemen, citing a conflict with fellow member Ethan Payne. He then released diss track videos aimed at his former group mates, and most of them replied in kind. Later that month he claimed in a video that he was being deported from the United States over an incorrect visa. By November 2017 he addressed whether the split was real, saying the drama "wasn't entirely real but wasn't entirely fake either." By December 2019 he was back on a Sidemen release, a Christmas single called "The Gift" with Miniminter, TBJZL, Zerkaa and S-X. It charted at number 77 in the UK.

In June 2024, KSI and the Sidemen created Inside, a reality competition series. It premiered on the 2nd of June on the group's YouTube channel. In November 2024, Netflix acquired the streaming rights and announced a second series, which premiered in March 2025. An American version, Inside: USA, followed in September 2025.

On the 31st of May 2026, KSI announced that he was leaving the Sidemen because he had become "too busy" for them. The announcement came with a deadline: his last video with them would be released that same day.

  • KSI had been writing and producing comedy-rap songs for his channel since 2011. On the 23rd of March 2015, he stepped outside his YouTube persona with his debut single, "Lamborghini", featuring grime MC P Money. It reached number 30 on the UK Singles Chart. His first EP, Keep Up, followed on the 8th of January 2016 through Island Records. It debuted at number 13 on the UK Albums Chart and at number one on the UK R&B Albums Chart. A second EP, Jump Around, arrived on the 28th of October 2016. One of its songs, "Touch Down" with Stefflon Don, appeared on the soundtrack of the 2017 film Baywatch.

On the 30th of June 2017, KSI independently released a third EP, Space. In October of that year came Disstracktions, an EP that aimed diss tracks at Sidemen members W2S and Behzinga. It reached number 31 on the UK Albums Chart and number one on the R&B chart. A week before its release he had said it would be his final record with Island, and that he would release music independently. On the 12th of April 2019, he put out New Age, a collaborative album with Randolph, which debuted at number 17.

On the 4th of November 2019, KSI signed with RBC Records and BMG, hoping to take his music further in the United States and internationally. His lead single, "Down Like That", featured Rick Ross, Lil Baby and S-X. It was released four days later and peaked at number 10 in the UK. Another single, "Houdini", featured the rapper Swarmz and Tion Wayne and debuted at number six.

KSI's debut studio album, Dissimulation, was released on the 22nd of May 2020. It debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and charted in 15 other countries. It was the best-selling debut album by a British artist in the UK that year, and it was certified gold for sales of 100,000. Planned festival slots at Parklife, Longitude, and Reading and Leeds were cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That year he also featured on "Lighter" by DJ Nathan Dawe. The song peaked at number three, was certified platinum for sales of 600,000, and was nominated for Best British Single at the 2021 BRIT Awards.

His second album, All Over the Place, came out on the 16th of July 2021. It debuted at number one and gave him his first chart-topping album. Its single "Don't Play", with Anne-Marie and Digital Farm Animals, debuted at number two in January 2021. That made it his highest-charting UK single to that point. "Holiday" matched the position in June 2021 and became his highest-charting solo single. "Lose", with Lil Wayne, debuted at number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100, his first entry on that chart.

On the 30th of May 2022, KSI announced a deal with Atlantic Records and Warner Music UK. The first record under the new label, "Not Over Yet" with Tom Grennan, charted at number four. On the 3rd of October 2024, he released the double single "Low" and "Thick of It", the latter featuring Trippie Redd. "Thick of It" met negative reception and mockery, yet it was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2025 BRIT Awards. On the 19th of November 2024, he received the BRIT Billion Award for passing one billion music streams in the UK. He has fourteen top 40 singles there, seven of them in the top 10.

A leaked track called "Dirty", released on the 13th of December 2024, then won back goodwill with a positive reception.

  • Late in 2017, KSI and the YouTuber Joe Weller began trading insults on Twitter and in diss tracks. They agreed to settle the feud in an amateur boxing match on the 3rd of February 2018 at Copper Box Arena in London. At the announcement, KSI mocked Weller's struggles with depression, and he later apologised. KSI won by technical knockout, 1 minute and 37 seconds into the third round. Afterwards he praised Weller as tougher than he had expected. He then called out Logan Paul, Jake Paul and the retired footballer Rio Ferdinand. His ring-walk song, "Uncontrollable" featuring Big Zuu, charted at number 89.

The first fight with Logan Paul, announced on the 24th of February 2018, ended in a majority draw. Two judges scored it 57-57, and the third gave it 58-57 to KSI. The rematch took place on the 9th of November 2019 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, promoted by Eddie Hearn. This time it was a professional bout, fought without headgear. His trainers were Viddal Riley and Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr. KSI won by split decision. Two judges scored it 56-55 and 57-54 for him, and one scored it 56-55 for Paul.

After a hiatus, KSI returned on the 27th of August 2022 at the first event of his own promotion, Misfits Boxing. His planned opponent, Alex Wassabi, withdrew after a major concussion, and Swarmz took his place. A second opponent, the Bulgarian boxer Ivan Nikolov, was pulled from the card because of white supremacist and neo-Nazi tattoos. The Mexican professional boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda stepped in. KSI beat Swarmz by knockout in the second round and Pineda in the third. He won the vacant MFB cruiserweight title.

On the 4th of January 2023, Dillon Danis withdrew from a Wembley Arena bout, citing lack of preparation, a lack of a coach and issues with the contracted weight. Within a week's notice, FaZe Clan founder FaZe Temperrr replaced him. KSI won by first-round knockout on the 14th of January. On the 13th of May 2023, he beat Joe Fournier by second-round knockout. Replays showed an illegal elbow strike in the finishing sequence, and on the 19th of May the Professional Boxing Association ruled the bout a no-contest.

On the 14th of October 2023 at Manchester Arena, Tommy Fury beat KSI by majority decision. The result was changed to a unanimous decision the next day. Judge Rafael Ramos had scored the bout 57-57, and that scorecard was mathematically incorrect. The event generated 1,300,000 pay-per-view buys. KSI called the result a "robbery", and many online and at the arena agreed, including the promoter Eddie Hearn. On the 1st of December, the Professional Boxing Association rejected KSI's appeal, saying there were "no grounds" to overturn the result. His manager, Mams Taylor, said the appeal was still ongoing.

On the 2nd of June 2024, KSI said he would return in August after a ten-month break. Talks with the former unified light welterweight champion Amir Khan fell through. A planned 2 vs. 1 tag-team bout in Dublin on the 31st of August against Slim Albaher and Anthony Taylor ended with KSI withdrawing on the 1st of August because of an injury. In 2025, the former Premier League left-back Wayne Bridge was lined up for the 29th of March. Bridge withdrew two days after a brawl at the face-off, which followed KSI's comments about Bridge's former girlfriend, Vanessa Perroncel. Danis was announced as the replacement, but an illness led to the fight being postponed and the event dropped.

On the 10th of January 2026, in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, KSI said he was "done with boxing" and had turned down deals of up to $30 million to fight Jake Paul. On the 28th of February, he told Heart he was not retired but "on a break".

  • In 2014, the Sidemen launched a clothing brand under the Sidemen Clothing banner. Their later ventures include Sides, a restaurant chain founded in November 2021 with Reef. XIX Vodka followed in October 2022, and Best Cereal launched in March 2024 with Mornflake.

In February 2021, KSI announced a record label, The Online Takeover, with his music manager Mams Taylor. Its first signee was the American-British singer Aiyana-Lee, who had featured on the track "Killa Killa". On the 13th of May, KSI and Proper Loud announced that Yxng Dave had joined as the second artist.

In June 2021, KSI announced Misfits Boxing in partnership with Wasserman Boxing. Its events carry the title MF & DAZN: X Series, after the streaming partner DAZN. On the 10th of January 2023, Misfits Boxing and DAZN signed a five-year deal to keep distributing events, with two pay-per-views each year.

In January 2022, KSI founded the drinks company Prime with his former rival Logan Paul. It makes sports drinks, drink mixes and energy drinks. In September 2024, KSI, Paul and MrBeast founded Lunchly, a children's lunch kit company and a joint venture between Prime and Feastables. It comes in three kits: pizza, fiesta nachos and turkey stack 'ems. Each is inspired by Lunchables, and each contains Prime and Feastables chocolate.

In November 2024, KSI was named president of Baller League UK, a six-a-side football league. On the 3rd of March 2026, he bought a minority stake in Dagenham & Redbridge F.C. and became part owner. Three days later, Variety announced that he and After Party Studios would produce a docuseries called Race to the Top about his takeover of the club, in the vein of Welcome to Wrexham.

  • In 2016, KSI and Caspar Lee starred in Laid in America, a British comedy released direct-to-video by Universal Pictures on the 26th of September 2016. Jason Best of Movie Talk gave it 1 out of 5 and called it "Crass and witless." In 2018 came a documentary, KSI: Can't Lose, produced by fellow YouTuber Callux's film studio, After Party Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It followed the path from his fight with Joe Weller toward the one with Logan Paul.

In 2023, Amazon Prime Video released KSI: In Real Life, produced with Louis Theroux. Theroux said it would show another side of JJ and explain how he got where he is. He described a man who has made never losing his brand, now taking on the music business.

In February 2025, KSI joined Britain's Got Talent series 18 on ITV1 as a guest judge. He stood in for Bruno Tonioli, who was committed in America to Dancing with the Stars, and for Simon Cowell, who stepped down after the death of the former One Direction star Liam Payne. In the fifth semi-final, KSI pressed the Live Show Golden Buzzer for the magician Harry Moulding, who went on to win. In the live final, KSI performed his hits, with Tom Grennan joining him for "Not Over Yet." For series 19, he replaced Tonioli as a full-time judge.

On the 1st of April 2023, at WrestleMania 39, KSI accompanied Logan Paul to the ring in a Prime bottle costume. He interfered in Paul's match with Seth "Freakin" Rollins, but Rollins swapped places with him, and Paul frog splashed KSI. On the 8th of March 2024, the pair appeared on SmackDown to celebrate Prime's partnership with WWE. Randy Orton interrupted and hit KSI with an RKO.

In 2016, KSI teamed up with Endemol Shine Group to publish KSI Unleashed, a mobile game for iOS and Android. He took a jab at PewDiePie, whose game PewDiePie: Legend of the Brofist was not free, by asking why anyone should pay for a mobile app game. KSI Unleashed was later removed from both app stores on an unknown date. In 2018, he trained alongside the former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping to promote EA Sports UFC 3. In August 2021, he hosted a virtual album launch party inside Roblox.

On the 24th of September 2015, KSI published an autobiography, KSI: I Am a Bellend, in the UK, with a US release five days later. On the 18th of October 2016, he and the Sidemen released Sidemen: The Book, published by Coronet Books. It became a UK number-one best-seller, selling 26,436 copies in its first three days.

  • In 2015, Forbes estimated that KSI had earned more than $4.5 million in the previous year, making him the fifth-highest-paid YouTuber in the world. In 2018, Esquire reported, citing Social Blade, that a single video could earn him up to Β£250,000 in advertising revenue. It added that product endorsements on his social media cost around Β£75,000. Heavy reported that year that he was director of three UK companies with equity totalling Β£1.7 million.

Business Insider reported that his 2018 amateur fight with Logan Paul generated around Β£8.5 million from pay-per-view alone, plus over Β£2.7 million in ticket sales. Some estimates put his potential earnings at Β£30 million to Β£40 million per fight. KSI dismissed them, saying his earnings were "a high amount" but "nowhere near Β£40 million or Β£20 million." Forbes reported that he was contracted to earn at least $900,000 from the 2019 rematch.

In a 2020 Men's Health interview, KSI said he owned over ten properties around England, with a combined worth of over Β£10 million. The Sunday Times estimated his earnings that year at Β£12 million, and a year later believed they had risen by another Β£13 million. He lost almost Β£6 million in cryptocurrency in 2021 and says he is done with it. On the 17th of August 2024, The Times ranked him and the Sidemen 21st on its list of the UK's richest gamers and creators, estimating Β£50 million in fortune shared among the group. In January 2026, on BBC One's Michael McIntyre's Big Show, McIntyre opened the YouTube Studio app on his phone. It showed an estimated $105,000 in revenue for the previous 28 days on KSI's main channel.

In March 2021, KSI faced criticism for misgendering a trans person and using a transphobic slur in a Sidemen video. He later apologised, saying he had not known the word was offensive. In April 2023, he used a racial slur in a Sidemen video parodying the game show Countdown. He apologised on Twitter and announced a break from social media, and the video has since been removed. He then visited the Al-Hikam Institute, a mosque in Bradford, to educate himself, and apologised again.

In 2015, KSI donated $10,000 to an online charity stream run by the YouTuber Castro1021. He also took part in Race Against Slime, raising money for SpecialEffect, which develops technology to help people with physical disabilities play video games. On the 8th of May 2020, he helped at a food bank for The Independent's Help the Hungry campaign. In December that year, he prepared meals for the Evening Standard's Food for London Now campaign. On the 11th of March 2021, he donated Β£10,000 to BBC Radio 1's Lol-a-thon for Comic Relief. On the 14th of February 2025, KSI co-captained team AboFlah & KSI in Match for Hope 2025, a football charity event in Doha, Qatar.
