Terms of service
Effective date: April 2026 (updated)
Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using HearLore, you agree to be bound by these terms of service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the service. Your continued use of HearLore after any changes to these terms constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
Description of service
HearLore provides audio summaries, topic pages, playlists, and related features adapted from publicly-licensed source articles. All audio, text summaries, and topic connections are processed and produced by HearLore. The service is designed to help you discover and listen to stories about people, places, events, ideas, and cultural moments.
User accounts
You may create an account using an email address and password, or through Google or Apple sign-in. Account data is stored securely using Supabase. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
Acceptable use
HearLore is intended for personal, non-commercial use. You may listen to audio summaries, browse topic pages, create playlists, and save entries to your library for your own personal enjoyment and learning. You may not use the service for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the service.
Prohibited use
The following activities are strictly prohibited without prior written permission from HearLore:
- Scraping, crawling, or using any automated means to access, collect, or download data from HearLore. This includes but is not limited to bots, spiders, scrapers, and any form of automated data extraction.
- Using HearLore's proprietary material, including topic relationships, graph data, recommendations, branding, and user interface, to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or otherwise develop machine learning models or artificial intelligence systems of any kind. Source article material adapted by HearLore into audio and text summaries is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 and its reuse is governed by the terms of that license (see intellectual property below).
- Reproducing, redistributing, publishing, or creating derivative works from HearLore's proprietary material, including branding, graph structure, recommendations, and user interface, without written consent from HearLore. Reuse of HearLore audio and text adaptations of source articles is governed by CC BY-SA 4.0.
- Circumventing, disabling, or interfering with rate limits, bot detection, access controls, or any other security or technical measures implemented by HearLore.
Violation of these prohibitions may result in immediate account termination and may subject you to legal action.
Intellectual property
Each HearLore entry adapts a publicly-licensed source article. The source article text is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). Attribution for each entry, including a link to the source article, appears at the bottom of that entry's sources panel.
Because HearLore adapts CC BY-SA 4.0 material, the audio recordings and text summaries HearLore produces from that material are also licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. If you share or adapt a HearLore audio episode or text summary, you must give appropriate credit to both the original source article and HearLore, indicate that changes were made, and release your adaptation under the same license. The full license text is available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0.
HearLore's branding, voice selection, user interface, topic relationship graph, recommendations, and any material not adapted from a CC BY-SA 4.0 source article remain the intellectual property of HearLore and are not licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
User-generated organization
When you create playlists, save bookmarks, or organize entries in your library, you retain ownership of your organizational choices. By using the service, you grant HearLore a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and transmit your playlists, bookmarks, and library organization as necessary to provide the service to you.
Termination
HearLore may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these terms of service. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. HearLore reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.
Disclaimer of warranties
HearLore is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. HearLore does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. HearLore makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information presented through the service.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, HearLore shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of or inability to use the service.
Changes to these terms
HearLore may update these terms of service from time to time. When changes are made, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Your continued use of the service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
