  • On the 15th of November 2024, Jake Paul climbed into a boxing ring in Texas and beat Mike Tyson by unanimous decision. Tyson had once been the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The judges scored the fight 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 for Paul, and the night set a record for the biggest boxing gate in United States history outside Las Vegas. Paul was an American influencer, a former actor and by then a professional boxer, born in 1997. Nothing about that résumé follows a normal path to the sport's biggest stages. How does someone who started by posting online videos end up trading punches with a legend? What did he build along the way, and what did it cost him? And why did so many people, at every step, doubt whether any of it was real?

  • Westlake, Ohio, is where Jake Paul grew up, after being born in Cleveland on the 17th of January 1997. His older brother Logan, who is also a YouTuber, was his partner in front of the camera. The two began filming themselves when Jake was ten. Their mother was Pamela Ann Stepnick, their father was a realtor named Gregory Allan Paul, and the household was church-going and Christian.

In September 2013, Paul began posting videos on Vine. By the time Twitter discontinued the app, he had gathered 5.3 million followers and 2 billion views. On the 15th of May 2014, he launched his own YouTube channel. It became known for pranks, controversies and his hip hop music.

Acting followed the online fame. His first feature film role was a cameo in the 2016 film Dance Camp. Later film roles included Airplane Mode in 2019, Mainstream in 2020 and A Genie's Tail in 2022. He also appeared as a guest on Walk the Prank, on The Price Is Right in 2017, and on Ridiculousness in 2020.

His biggest break was the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark. He played Dirk Mann, a character who performed dares that people requested. On the 22nd of July 2017, in the middle of filming the second season, the network announced that Paul was leaving. The announcement followed a news report from KTLA about complaints from his neighbors. They described noise from his pranks, parties, hazards, and large crowds of fans gathering on their street.

Paul confirmed the news on Twitter. He said he would now focus on his personal brand, his YouTube channel, his business ventures and more mature acting roles. Later, he told The Hollywood Reporter that Disney had actually fired him. In his telling, the network wanted him gone quickly because of the controversy. The magazine wrote that "For Disney, the KTLA news segment was the final straw".

  • On the 17th of January 2017, his 20th birthday, Paul was reported to have launched a media company called TeamDom with $1 million in funding. It was meant to be an influencer marketing management and creative agency built around teen entertainment. Its investors included Danhua Capital, Horizons Alpha, Vayner Capital, Sound Ventures, A-Grade Investments and Adam Zeplain. The company sat beside Team 10, an entertainment collective of creators that Paul had started in 2016.

The group's biggest moment arrived on the 30th of May 2017 with the single "It's Everyday Bro". Vocals came from Team 10 members of the time, including Nick Crompton, Chance Sutton, the twins Ivan and Emilio Martinez, and Tessa Brooks. The video passed 70 million views in a month and became the third most disliked video in YouTube history. The song also reached number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the Recording Industry Association of America certified it platinum. Its title was literal, because Paul was posting a video every single day.

On the 22nd of November 2017, he released a remix with the rapper Gucci Mane replacing Team 10. Several other 2017 singles, including "Ohio Fried Chicken", "Jerika", "No Competition", "That Ain't on the News" and "Litmas", were released and later deleted. The reasons varied, and they included his 2018 break-up with Erika Costell.

The releases kept coming through spring 2018. "Malibu" arrived on the 27th of April, with former Team 10 member Chad Tepper. "My Teachers" followed on the 11th of May. On the 24th of May came "Randy Savage" and "Cartier Vision", both featuring the hip hop duo Jitt & Quan. On the 15th of August 2018, he released "Champion", a diss track aimed at his boxing opponent Deji Olatunji, who performed online as ComedyShortsGamer.

That summer, Paul and Team 10 toured North America performing their songs. The members drifted apart over the year. Paul's many business ventures still earned him second place on the Forbes list of highest-paid YouTubers for 2018.

On the 1st of March 2019, he released "I'm Single", a song about being single and his breakup with Costell. Team 10's social media accounts have been inactive since September 2019, so some assumed the group had disbanded and that Paul had formed a new team. On the 13th of December 2019, he released "These Days", which featured the model Julia Rose and described his past long-distance relationship with Alissa Violet. It was removed from all streaming services within a year.

The song "23", released on the 10th of September 2020, took its title from his age and from Michael Jordan's jersey number. Its video, shot at his house, starred his brother Logan. Then came "Dummy", released on the 15th of October 2020 with the Canadian rapper TVGucci, an artist signed to Drake's label OVO Sound.

  • Manchester Arena hosted Jake Paul's first boxing match on the 25th of August 2018. It was a white-collar bout against Deji Olatunji, the younger brother of the British YouTuber and boxer KSI. The fight was the co-feature to Logan Paul's own bout against KSI. Jake won by technical knockout in the 5th round.

His professional debut came on the 30th of January 2020 at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami. His opponent was another English YouTuber, AnEsonGib, who lasted only one round. The fight was the co-feature to a WBO world middleweight title bout between Demetrius Andrade and Luke Keeler. Paul used the moment to call out KSI.

On the 28th of November 2020, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, he knocked out former basketball player Nate Robinson in the 2nd round. The bout was on the undercard of an exhibition between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Next he turned to former mixed martial arts fighters. Ben Askren, a former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion, met him at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on the 17th of April 2021. Paul won by technical knockout in the 1st round. Triller reported 1.45 million pay-per-view buys. Many fans, fighters and commentators questioned both the match and those numbers.

Tyron Woodley, a former UFC welterweight champion, had clashed backstage with Paul and his cornerman, the boxer J'Leon Love, before the Askren fight. After Paul won, Woodley called him out. They met at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland on the 29th of August 2021. Paul took a split decision. One judge scored it 77-75 for Woodley, while the other two scored it 77-75 and 78-74 for Paul. Paul offered Woodley a rematch if he would tattoo "I love Jake Paul" on his body.

The rematch came on the 18th of December 2021, after the planned opponent Tommy Fury withdrew for medical reasons. Paul knocked Woodley out in the 6th round, and ESPN gave the finish its Ringside Award for Knockout of the Year. Fury pulled out again in 2022, citing travel issues, before a planned fight at Madison Square Garden. The replacement, Hasim Rahman Jr., then fell through over weight issues, and the card was canceled on the 30th of July.

Anderson Silva, a former UFC champion, stepped in instead. They fought at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on the 29th of October 2022. Paul won by unanimous decision, with scores of 78-73, 78-73 and 77-74.

On the 26th of February 2023 in Saudi Arabia, Paul finally met Fury, the first active professional boxer he had faced. Fury won by split decision, even though Paul knocked him down in the 8th round. One judge had it 75-74 for Paul, and the other two had it 76-73 for Fury. It was Paul's first defeat.

Afterward, KSI's manager Mams Taylor said that talks for an August fight at Wembley Stadium in London had been under way. According to Taylor, Paul left the negotiations after the loss. Paul confirmed he had opted out and chosen Nate Diaz, whom he considered the tougher opponent. They fought at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on the 5th of August 2023. The bout was extended from eight rounds to ten. Paul won by unanimous decision, with scores of 98-91, 98-91 and 97-92.

  • In 2021, Paul and his business adviser Nakisa Bidarian founded a boxing promotion called Most Valuable Promotions. Its first signing, in September 2021, was the Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano, a seven-division world champion. Around the same time, Paul founded an organization called Boxing Bullies, meant to help young people fight bullying.

In 2022, Most Valuable Promotions teamed with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing to present Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano, billed as "For History". It was the first women's boxing match to headline Madison Square Garden. Sports Illustrated named it Fight of the Year, and The Ring named it Event of the Year. In 2023, the promotion and DAZN announced a series called Most Valuable Prospects, which put rising boxers in headline spots without pay-per-view. Its first event took place on the 26th of May at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, where Ashton Sylve beat Adam Kipenga by unanimous decision.

Also in 2021, Paul partnered with the entrepreneur Geoffrey Woo to start a venture capital firm called Anti Fund. In August 2021, it led a $30 million financing round for the sports gambling firm Simplebet. In August 2022, it invested in Anduril Industries, a defense technology company. The fund was recently reported to hold more than $65 million in investments and assets.

In August 2022, Paul and Simplebet's founder Joey Levy founded Betr, a sports-media and mobile-betting company. Paul claims to have received $50 million in series-A funding for it. In March 2024, Betr raised $15 million at a $375 million valuation, bringing its total funding to $100 million. In June 2024, Anti Fund incubated a men's personal care brand called W, with products under $10 at Walmart. In July 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported that W had raised over $14 million at a valuation above $150 million, with backers including the tennis star Naomi Osaka.

Forbes estimated that Paul earned $38 million from three boxing bouts and other income in the period to May 2022. In June 2025, the magazine listed him among the world's highest-paid creators, with estimated 2024 earnings of $50 million. A table of his pay-per-view fights totals 2,750,000 buys and $152,882,000 in revenue.

In January 2023, he signed a multiyear deal with the Professional Fighters League to cofound a pay-per-view division called Super Fight and take the title of head of fighter advocacy. To prepare for mixed martial arts, he trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Mo Jassim and Michael Perez. On the 21st of January 2026, it was reported that his deal had expired and he had left without ever fighting for the league.

  • On the 1st of August 2017, a fan approached Paul during a drive-through prank video and said he was from Kazakhstan. Paul replied, "It sounds like you're just going to blow someone up. Send the nuke!" Critics accused him of spreading stereotypes about Arabs and Muslims. In November 2017, the twins Ivan and Emilio Martinez left Team 10 and accused Paul and others of targeting them with anti-Mexican jokes, even though they were Spaniards. They alleged slurs, invasions of their privacy, destroyed property and withheld payment. Paul told the YouTuber Shane Dawson that "nothing was off-limits" among members, and said he believed the twins had found it funny at the time.

On the 3rd of January 2018, Paul uploaded a video titled "I lost my virginity". Its thumbnail showed him and Erika Costell semi-nude on top of each other. YouTube age-restricted the video, and the creator Keemstar called the image inappropriate for his young audience. The thumbnail was changed to show them fully clothed. Two days later, TMZ revealed a video in which Paul repeatedly used a racial slur while freestyle rapping.

His neighbors in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles filed a class-action public nuisance lawsuit after he made his address public and crowds gathered outside. On the 24th of April 2018, it was reported that Cobra Acquisitions, the company that owns the house, was suing him for $2.5 million.

On the 23rd of February 2020 in Las Vegas, Paul argued with the British singer Zayn Malik at the Westgate hotel, where their rooms were across from each other. The dispute began when Logan visited and Paul felt Malik was using a rude tone. Paul tweeted about it, then deleted the tweets and blamed being drunk. Logan released footage on his podcast, Impaulsive.

On the 11th of July 2020, Paul threw a large party at his home in Calabasas, California, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dozens attended without masks or distancing. The city's mayor, Alicia Weintraub, called it "a big, huge disregard" for the effort to restart normal life. On the 25th of November 2020, he told The Daily Beast that COVID-19 was a "hoax". He also claimed the flu had killed as many Americans that year as the virus, which was incorrect. The comedian and YouTuber Tyler Oakley called him "aggressively ignorant".

On the 30th of May 2020, during the George Floyd protests, Paul and friends were at a P. F. Chang's outside Scottsdale Fashion Square in Arizona when looting began. They went into the mall and filmed. Paul apologized, denied looting, and said they were "strictly documenting, not engaging". He was charged on the 4th of June with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly. On the 5th of August 2020, the FBI raided his Calabasas mansion, and the Scottsdale charges were dismissed without prejudice the same day. In August 2021, it was reported he would not face federal charges.

On the 9th of April 2021, the TikTok personality Justine Paradise alleged in a video that Paul had forced her into oral sex and touched her without consent at the Team 10 House in 2019. Paul called the claim "100% false". Paradise later said she received harassment and death threats. On the 22nd of April 2021, The New York Times reported a second accusation, from the model and actress Railey Lollie, who began working for Paul at 17. She alleged that he called her "jailbait" and groped her.

Money-related complaints ran through the same years. In January 2018, Paul launched Edfluence, a $7 course meant to teach young people to succeed as influencers. Critics said the fee bought only a few basic tips, and the promised "Team 1000" never materialized. It was shut down on the 31st of January 2020, and he soon announced a $19.99-per-month platform called "The Financial Freedom Movement". On the 3rd of January 2019, he and RiceGum came under fire for promoting MysteryBrand, a digital mystery box site where many users said they never received prizes.

On the 18th of February 2022, Paul was named as a defendant in a class-action lawsuit over the SafeMoon token, which alleged it was a pump and dump scheme. The suit said he and other social media figures promoted it with misleading information. In March 2022, the YouTuber Coffeezilla accused him of using cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens to scam fans out of $2.2 million. In March 2023, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Paul and seven other celebrities with promoting cryptocurrencies without disclosing they had been paid. He settled for over $400,000 without admitting or denying the claims.

  • "So far, my entire boxing career has been on PPV, but now it's about more than business. Now I want to build my experience in the ring." That was Paul's explanation for his next fight, against Andre August, a professional boxer with a record of 10-1-1. It took place on the 15th of December 2023 at the Caribe Royal Hotel in Orlando, as the headline of Most Valuable Prospects IV. It was his first headline fight not on pay-per-view. Paul knocked August out in the first round.

On the 2nd of March 2024 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he fought Ryan Bourland, who came in with a record of 17-2. Paul won by technical knockout, again in the first round. On the 7th of March 2024, Tyson was announced as his next opponent for the 20th of July at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Netflix would broadcast it, and it would be Paul's heavyweight debut. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations sanctioned it as a professional bout on the 29th of April. On the 31st of May, the fight was postponed after Tyson suffered an ulcer flare up aboard a plane. On the 7th of June, it was moved to the 15th of November in the same arena.

Mike Perry filled the July date. He was a former UFC fighter and the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship's "King of Violence". The bout was confirmed for Amalie Arena in Tampa on the 18th of June, and Paul won by technical knockout in the 6th round. On the 7th of November 2024, Netflix premiered the first two episodes of Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, narrated by Ice-T. The third and final one followed on the 12th of November.

Julio César Chávez Jr., a former WBC middleweight champion, was Paul's opponent on the 28th of June 2025 in Anaheim, California. It was a 10-round cruiserweight bout, and Paul won by unanimous decision with scores of 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92. The World Boxing Association then ranked him number 14, and WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said the WBC would rank him as well. That made him eligible to challenge the WBA cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez. Other ranked contenders criticized the decision, and the WBA said it was reviewing the ranking. Sulaiman said Paul must first beat a top 15 contender to earn a title shot.

On the 20th of August 2025, a Netflix bout against the WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was announced for the 14th of November. It was billed as a non-title fight. Critics pointed out that Davis weighs roughly 65 pounds less than Paul. On the 17th of September, the event moved from Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami, after both men withdrew their permit requests because of sanctioning issues. Two weeks before the date, Davis was named in a civil lawsuit accusing him of violent behavior, battery and kidnapping. On the 4th of November, Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix canceled the card. Paul publicly called Davis unprofessional on X.

On the 17th of November 2025, Paul was announced as the opponent of Anthony Joshua, a former two-time unified heavyweight champion and the IBF and WBO number one ranked heavyweight. The fight was set for the 19th of December at the Kaseya Center, again on Netflix. It was scheduled for eight rounds of three minutes, with 10 oz gloves. Critics again noted the size gap, since Paul weighed about 53 pounds less than Joshua had in their most recent fights. Paul lost by knockout in the 6th round, the first knockout loss of his career.

His jaw was badly injured. Surgeons installed two titanium plates in his mouth, and some teeth were removed. He could not eat solid food for at least a week. In January 2026, he lost his number 14 WBA cruiserweight ranking. In a May 2026 interview with Ariel Helwani, Paul said his boxing career was "most definitely" in doubt. He later said he expected to be medically cleared for sparring in two to three months.

  • On the 28th of July 2019, Paul and the YouTuber Tana Mongeau exchanged vows in Las Vegas. They had started dating in April 2019 and announced an engagement in June, though many fans doubted it was real. InTouch reported that they had no marriage license and that the officiant was not licensed in Nevada, so the marriage was not legally binding. Viewers could watch the ceremony on pay-per-view for $50, and MTV recorded it for the show No Filter: Tana Mongeau. Mongeau said on the show that it was something "fun and lighthearted that we're obviously doing for fun and for content". The couple announced their break-up in January 2020.

On the 3rd of April 2023, Paul and the Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam publicly confirmed they were a couple. They had gotten in touch through Instagram a few months earlier. In March 2025, they announced their engagement. Paul bought a mansion in Puerto Rico in 2023.

His brother Logan remained part of his story. In November 2022, Logan challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, headlining WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Jake came out to "It's Everyday Bro" and rescued Logan from an attack by The Usos and Solo Sikoa. Logan still lost the match.

In February 2025, it was reported that Paul had discovered his maternal grandmother was Jewish, which makes him Jewish under Jewish law. His listed ancestry is Irish, Welsh, Polish, Hungarian, Jewish, French and German. He is an avid supporter of Liverpool F.C. His net worth is estimated at roughly $17-30 million.

In September 2023, Paul backed the Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. He later supported Donald Trump and criticized President Joe Biden. After the attempted assassination of Trump in July 2024, Paul posted on X: "If it isn't apparent enough who God wants to win. When you try and kill God's angels and saviors of the world it just makes them bigger." He formally endorsed Trump in a YouTube video on the 31st of October 2024. On the 11th of March 2026, Trump endorsed Paul for any future political bid, although Paul had shown no recent interest in a political career.
