• 1. Introduction

  "Daytrip took it to ten" is the producer tag that announces Take a Daytrip on records. Denzel Baptiste was born on the 9th of January 1993; David Biral was born on the 22nd of February 1993. The two met while attending New York University and began producing together in 2014. Neither had placed a song on a chart when they started. Within a few years, their work appeared in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. More would follow, reaching number one, then number one again. A plagiarism lawsuit entered the picture along the way, and in 2025, the name Take a Daytrip was attached to a project of a very different scale. How did that happen, and what does the career actually look like?

• 2. The Early Sessions

  Raury's 2014 album "Indigo Child" carries two Take a Daytrip production credits. The following year brought collaboration with Chaz French on "These Things Take Time" and work for All We Need. For The Skins' album "Still Sleep," they took engineering, composing, and producing roles across four tracks in 2015. In 2016, they produced "Worst Luck" on 6LACK's debut album "FREE 6LACK." Nessly's "Solo Boy Band" that same year included three more productions: "Twisted Love," "Regular," and "Never Knew." Alongside the client work, Baptiste and Biral released collaborative singles with Treez Lowkey in 2016, including "D.O.A.," "Listen," and "To The Max." Rockstar Games commissioned them to produce the score for a "Grand Theft Auto Online" update called "Import/Export." That gaming credit predated any charted single. In 2017, Sheck Wes was recording a track for his album "Mudboy" that would be called "Mo Bamba."

• 3. Mo Bamba

  Sheck Wes's 2017 album "Mudboy" contained a Take a Daytrip production that would reach number six on the Billboard Hot 100. That track, "Mo Bamba," also peaked at number two on the R&B and Hip-Hop chart. The RIAA certified it five-times platinum, and Music Canada added three-times platinum certification. Baptiste and Biral held mixing, engineering, composing, and producing credits on the track. It was their first entry in the top ten of the Hot 100. Their own releases continued alongside the production work: 2017 brought "I Don't Mind" and "Fiji" as Take a Daytrip and Treez Lowkey singles. The next major commission came from an artist who had just finished an EP called "7."

• 4. The Lil Nas X Partnership

  "Panini" appeared on Lil Nas X's "7" EP in 2019 and peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The RIAA certified it five-times platinum; Music Canada gave it four-times platinum status. Further productions for Lil Nas X followed in 2020. "Holiday" reached number 37 on the Hot 100 and number 11 on the R&B and Hip-Hop chart. The year 2021 brought two number-one results. "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" reached number one in the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The RIAA gave it two-times platinum status; the Australian ARIA, the British BPI, and New Zealand's RMNZ each certified it platinum. "Industry Baby," featuring Jack Harlow, also peaked at number one on the Hot 100. "Sun Goes Down" added a number 66 result in the same year. Baptiste and Biral took composer and producer credits on ten tracks from Lil Nas X's studio album "Montero." A production from this body of work had drawn a legal challenge that would require court intervention.

• 5. The Rodeo Lawsuit

  In October 2019, two Atlanta producers filed suit against Lil Nas X, Cardi B, and Take a Daytrip over the song "Rodeo." Their names were Don Lee and Glen Keith Demeritt III. The claim was that "Rodeo" had copied a song called "Broad Day," which they had produced for performers Puerto Reefa and Sakrite Duexe. The court dismissed the case with prejudice. A dismissal with prejudice bars the plaintiffs from bringing the same claim again. The "Rodeo" production credit remained in the Take a Daytrip discography. In 2020, Travis Scott and Kid Cudi released a collaboration that would give the duo another number-one placement.

• 6. Wide Reach

  Travis Scott and Kid Cudi's "The Scotts" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020, certified platinum by the RIAA. It also topped the R&B and Hip-Hop chart and reached number one in Canada and the United Kingdom. That same year, Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" album included a Take a Daytrip production called "Good in Bed." Miley Cyrus's 2020 album "Plastic Hearts" included their work on "High." Kid Cudi's "Man on the Moon III: The Chosen," also from 2020, contained seven Take a Daytrip productions. Among them were "Tequila Shots," "Another Day," "Damaged," "Sad People," and "Lord I Know." Juice Wrld's "Legends" had peaked at number 29 on the Hot 100 in 2018, certified platinum by the RIAA and gold in Canada. A second Juice Wrld production, "Bad Energy," appeared on the 2020 posthumous album "Legends Never Die" and reached number 16 on the Hot 100. In 2018, Vince Staples's "Home" had contributed to the soundtrack for "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." James Blake's 2021 album "Friends That Break Your Heart" included their production on "Life Is Not the Same." Weezer's "Van Weezer," released in 2021, carried their composing credit on "Hero." For the 2024 film "Smile 2," Take a Daytrip produced and co-wrote the song "Grieved You."

• 7. The FIFA Commission

  Take a Daytrip was named as one of the remixers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup's official theme in 2025. Their designation identified them as representatives of the New York metropolitan area. Their 2025 featured singles "Pervesa" and "At Peace" appear in their discography alongside the World Cup announcement. Both confirm the studio work has continued into the same year as the commission.
