Sagan om ringen appeared on Sveriges Television in 1971 as a two-part live action film. This production drew its initial inspiration from Bo Hansson's 1970 music album titled Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings. The album itself was created after Hansson listened to J. R. R. Tolkien's 1954 novel The Lord of the Rings. A later broadcast of this story occurred on the 23rd of October 2015, during a program called I trollkarlens hatt. The original television series remains available for viewing on YouTube today.
Painted Worlds And Real Actors
Live actors performed their scenes while standing before hand-drawn backgrounds. Artist Peter Lindblom created all the drawings used within the production. These painted backdrops provided the environment where the human performers acted out their roles. The visual style combined real people with static illustrations rather than using sets or models. This technique defined the look of every scene filmed for the project. The Journey Begins At Rivendell
Bilbo's birthday party marked the start of events shown in the film. The narrative followed the group until they departed from Rivendell. Viewers saw the hobbits travel toward Bree alongside Old Man Willow and Tom Bombadil. During an attack by Black Riders, Glorfindel appeared riding his horse Asfaloth. The story concluded as the fellowship left the safety of Elrond's home.Characters Missing From The Council
Glorfindel rode Asfaloth to fight off the Black Riders during the journey. Tom Bombadil guided the hobbits through the Old Forest near Old Man Willow. Boromir did not appear at Elrond's council meeting inside the film. This absence distinguished the Swedish version from later cinematic adaptations that included him. The plot focused heavily on the early stages of the quest without showing the full war against Sauron.
