This production drew its initial inspiration from Bo Hansson's 1970 music album titled Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings. The album itself was created after Hansson listened to J. R. R. Tolkien's 1954 novel The Lord of the Rings.
Artist Peter Lindblom created all the drawings used within the production. These painted backdrops provided the environment where the human performers acted out their roles.
Viewers saw the hobbits travel toward Bree alongside Old Man Willow and Tom Bombadil while Glorfindel appeared riding his horse Asfaloth. Boromir did not appear at Elrond's council meeting inside the film.
The original television series remains available for viewing on YouTube today. This availability allows audiences to access the live action adaptation produced in 1971.
