Terry Rozier
Terry Rozier was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on the 17th of March 1994. His father Terry Rozier Sr. went to prison when the boy was only two months old. The sentence lasted eight years and left a young family without a parent for most of his early life. In 2005, shortly after his release from prison, Rozier Sr. spent a few months with his son before being arrested again. This time the charges involved involuntary manslaughter stemming from a robbery and kidnapping that occurred in 2003. That incident led to the accidental death of an accomplice and resulted in a new thirteen-year prison term for the elder Rozier.
Gina Tucker raised her son alongside Amanda Tucker, who served as grandmother to both Terry Jr. and his siblings. They also had a brother and half-sister living under their roof during those formative years. The household relied heavily on the women of the family to provide stability while the men were absent due to legal troubles. These circumstances shaped the environment where Rozier grew up and developed his work ethic.
Rozier attended Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, graduating in 2012. During his senior year he averaged twenty-five point six points per game along with six point five rebounds and four point five assists. His team finished with a twenty-one win three loss record and reached the regional semifinals for the first time since 2002. He earned All-Lake Erie League honors for three consecutive years and ranked seventy-fourth nationally on ESPNU's Top 100 Players list in 2012.
Academic requirements forced him to spend time at Hargrave Military Academy before joining Louisville University. In the 2012, 13 season at Hargrave he posted averages of twenty-nine point three points, seven point eight rebounds and five point six assists. That squad went thirty-eight wins and eight losses. He won MVP honors at the Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic that same year. Rozier also placed second in both dunk and three-point contests during his time there.
As a freshman at Louisville during the 2013, 14 campaign he averaged seven points and three point one rebounds across thirty-seven games. He made the AAC All-Rookie Team that season. The following year as a sophomore he led the Cardinals with seventeen point one points per game. Rozier was named to the second-team All-ACC after finishing the 2014, 15 season.
The Boston Celtics selected Terry Rozier with the sixteenth overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft on the 25th of June 2015. He signed his rookie-scale contract shortly thereafter on the 27th of July 2015. During his first professional season Rozier received multiple assignments to the Maine Red Claws, the team's D-League affiliate. He appeared in thirty-nine regular season games for Boston in 2015, 16 scoring a season-high seven points twice.
His first playoff appearance came against the Atlanta Hawks where he scored ten points on four-of-seven shooting. On the 12th of November 2016, Rozier set a career high of eleven points in a victory over Indiana. Nine days later he topped that mark with twelve points against Minnesota. By the 7th of December 2016, he had reached sixteen points in a win over Orlando. On the 19th of March 2017, he recorded his first double-double with fourteen points and ten rebounds in a loss to Philadelphia.
Rozier broke through further when he logged his first triple-double on the 31st of January 2017. That game featured seventeen points, eleven rebounds and ten assists in a win over New York. Two days later he scored a career-best thirty-one points against Atlanta. In his sixth start replacing Kyrie Irving he dropped thirty-three points on Sacramento on the 25th of March 2017. Playoff performances included twenty-three points in Game 2 against Milwaukee and twenty-six points in Game 7 of that series.
On the 6th of July 2019, Rozier was traded to the Charlotte Hornets as part of a sign-and-trade deal involving Kemba Walker. The agreement gave him a new three-year contract worth fifty-six point seven million dollars. Critics questioned the value of this deal following poor playoff performance by Boston and the departure of their star player. Rozier responded by improving his play throughout the rest of the season.
He set a then-career high of thirty-five points on the 18th of December 2019, in a narrow loss to Cleveland. On the 8th of March 2020, he surpassed that with forty points in a double-overtime defeat against Atlanta. A new record fell on the 23rd of December 2020, when he posted forty-two points along with three rebounds and two assists in another loss to Cleveland. He broke that mark again on the 9th of May 2021, scoring forty-three points in a win over New Orleans.
Rozier signed a four-year extension worth ninety-seven million dollars on the 24th of August 2021. That season he scored thirty-five points twice including games against Indiana and Memphis. His team finished with forty-three wins and thirty-nine losses qualifying for the play-in tournament. They lost to Atlanta in April 2022 despite his twenty-one-point effort. In January 2023 he hit thirty-nine points against Milwaukee and followed up with thirty-four points versus Atlanta later that month.
On the 30th of January 2025, the NBA announced an investigation into Rozier regarding sports betting activities during a 2023 game while he played for Charlotte. High volume bets were placed on the under for his performance before he left early due to injury. Unlike other cases involving similar allegations, the league allowed him to continue playing without immediate suspension.
The situation escalated dramatically when Rozier was arrested on the 23rd of October 2025, alongside Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and former player Damon Jones. This arrest occurred within a broader federal probe targeting organized crime groups including the Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese families. On the 8th of December 2025, Rozier pled not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
His college statistics show seventy-three total appearances at Louisville with twelve point zero points per game average. During his time there he shot forty-point eight percent from the floor and thirty-three point one percent from deep. Rozier earned All-Rookie honors after his freshman year and second-team All-ACC recognition as a sophomore. He became just the second
player in NBA history to record a triple-double in his first start alongside Tony Wroten.
Rozier gained social media attention for appearing on NBA TV's The Starters where he prepared a sandwich using spaghetti, ranch dressing and sugar. He also co-hosted the Mickstape podcast under the Barstool Sports network before legal issues arose. These off-court activities added another layer to his public profile beyond basketball performance.
