  • Konami revealed Silent Hill: The Arcade at the 2007 Japan Arcade Operator's Union trade show. Polygon Magic developed this arcade game spin-off of the survival horror video game series. This project marked a significant departure from the normal survival horror mechanics found in main series titles. The reveal signaled Konami's intent to explore new interactive formats for their established franchise.

  • Players use light guns to aim and shoot at enemies during gameplay sessions. Shooting away from the screen reloads the player's gun, creating a unique rhythm for combat. A second player can join the game at any time as the other character. Progress can be saved by using the e-Amusement pass system. The experience mirrors the House of the Dead series rather than traditional survival horror games.

  • Eric, Tina, Bill, Jessie, Ryan and George are members of their school's Occult Club in Portland. They enter Silent Hill to investigate rumors circulating around the area. Eric's great-grandfather was the captain of a steamboat called Little Baroness. Both disappeared along with the crew and passengers on Toluca Lake seventy-five years ago. After stopping in a motel to rest for the night, Eric and Tina awake to find their friends missing. The town shrouds itself in fog while monsters such as Pyramid Head relentlessly pursue them.

  • While searching for their friends, they find Tina's 9-year-old pen-pal Emilie looking for her mother. The two are reunited until Emilie is thrown into Toluca Lake by a monstrous form of her mother. That woman had been murdered in a home burglary a year ago. Eric and Tina dive in to save her from the depths below. At the bottom of the lake they encounter Hanna, a girl resembling Emilie and the one responsible for the disappearance of the Little Baroness after she was thrown overboard by her mother due to Hanna's terminal illness.

  • Hanna mutates into a creature with only a head and tentacles until she is defeated. This transformation represents the tragic fate of a child burdened by illness and abandonment. Her physical state reflects the corruption spreading through the town. Players must confront this mutated form to progress further into the narrative. The battle against her serves as a pivotal moment in the story arc.

  • One ending shows Eric and Tina rescuing Emilie and freeing Hanna's spirit. Another depicts them trapped permanently in the town if Emilie dies and Hanna is not freed. A joke ending places Eric and Tina in the Gradius video game which is being played by Robbie the Rabbit. These variations depend on player actions during the game including whether they save friends or destroy Hanna's tentacles. The choices made determine the final outcome for all characters involved.

  • The game received negative feedback from critics who viewed it as an unnecessary spin on the classic survival horror series. Destructoid published a review describing the title as extremely unnecessary. Reviewers felt the rail shooter mechanics clashed with the atmospheric depth expected from Silent Hill fans. The arcade format limited the exploration that defined previous entries in the franchise.
