• 1. Origins And Formation

  One year after the Battle of Endor, Imperial loyalists fled to the galaxy's Unknown Regions. They followed a secret contingency plan designed to rebuild their power. The Rebel Alliance had established the New Republic and signed the Galactic Concordance with what remained of the Empire. This agreement reduced the Empire to a rump state before dissolving it entirely. Despite this peace treaty, the First Order rose in the Unknown Regions. It repeatedly ignored and violated the Galactic Concordance while rebuilding former Imperial fleets. A new generation of stormtrooper forces mobilized within its expanding armies. The heavily demilitarized New Republic did not view the First Order as a true threat. General Leia Organa and several other Rebel veterans broke away from the military. They formed the Resistance as a check on the designs of the First Order. The group recruited from both the New Republic military and worlds that experienced the worst of the Empire. The Republic tolerated the private force but offered no official support. Some within the Senate secretly funded and armed the group.

• 2. Force Awakens Campaign

  General Leia Organa dispatched agent Poe Dameron to Jakku to recover part of a navigational star map. He sought the location of Luke Skywalker from an old ally named Lor San Tekka. Kylo Ren intercepted Dameron and captured him. Ren killed San Tekka in the process. Dameron's droid BB-8 escaped with the map. Dameron was tortured for information but escaped with defector stormtrooper FN-2187. Dameron dubbed Finn. They crashed back on Jakku where Dameron was presumed dead. Local scavenger Rey found BB-8 in the company of Finn. First Order stormtroopers marked them together and forced their escape aboard the Millennium Falcon. Han Solo and Chewbacca found the ship and were forced to flee with Rey, Finn, and BB-8. They took refuge on Takodana with Maz Kanata. General Hux used the Starkiller Base superweapon to destroy the New Republic capital. The Republic Senate and Starfleet were also destroyed. Kylo Ren attacked Takodana and took Rey captive after learning she had seen the map. Surviving Resistance pilots came to aid Poe Dameron. Finn and Chewbacca helped take down the planet shields while Poe led two squadrons. Han Solo implored Ben to return to his family. Kylo Ren killed his father per the urging of Supreme Leader Snoke. Chewbacca struck a bolt at Ren that bought time for Poe. Dameron performed a trench run bombing the oscillator and destroying it. The entire planet began collapsing in itself.

• 3. Last Jedi Pursuit

  The First Order dispatched the Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought Fulminatrix to destroy the Resistance base on D'Qar. Poe Dameron decided to lead a desperate assault on the Fulminatrix. His starfighter forces succeeded but many pilots were killed. Upon returning to the Raddus, he was demoted to captain by General Organa. The Resistance fleet was pursued across the galaxy by the Supremacy. This Mega-class Star Dreadnought could track hyperspace jumps. Kylo Ren led Star Destroyers to degrade Resistance fighting abilities. Several Resistance leaders including Admiral Ackbar were killed in the assault. Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo assumed temporary leadership when Organa was seriously wounded. Holdo deduced that evacuation via escape pods was the only option. The First Order fired upon the fleeing convoy destroying some escape pods. Finn, BB-8, and technician Rose Tico embarked on a secret mission to Cantonica. They sought a slicer named DJ who could disable the Supremacy tracker. DJ betrayed them and turned them over to the First Order. Holdo staged a suicide attack by aiming a hyperspace jump through the Supremacy. It tore the ship asunder. Survivors gathered on Crait taking refuge in an abandoned Rebel Alliance base. Kylo Ren arrived with AT-M6 walkers and a superlaser siege cannon. Luke Skywalker appeared as a Force projection to stall Ren. The remnants of the Resistance escaped through a backdoor exit aboard the Millennium Falcon.

• 4. Rise Of Skywalker Victory

  The Resistance appeared in The Rise of Skywalker set one year after The Last Jedi. They established their base on the jungle moon of Ajan Kloss. Finn, Poe, R2-D2, and Chewie collected Intel about Palpatine's return from a spy. They fled back to their base using the Falcon after wiping off chasing TIE fighters. Rey joined them to search for clues to the Sith wayfinder artifact. The Resistance traveled to Exegol with their fleet to face the Final Order. They emerged victorious after defeating the Sith Eternal forces. Citizens of the galaxy rose up against the First Order following the death of Palpatine. This brought the regime to its demise. The fate of the galaxy remains unknown but democracy likely returned thanks to the Resistance. The group potentially restored the New Republic.

• 5. Leadership Structure

  Fleet Admiral Gial Ackbar led the Resistance Fleet alongside General Leia Organa. Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo commanded during crises when others fell. When Admiral Ackbar was killed and Leia entered a coma, Holdo assumed command of the fleet. Ground Forces were led by General Caluan Ematt and Commander Larma D'Acy. The Resistance was too small to support official infantry units. Pilots, technicians, and other personnel trained to fight if necessary. Command transitions occurred between key figures including Leia Organa, Poe Dameron, and Vice Admiral Holdo. These shifts happened during moments of extreme danger or loss of leadership.
