  The first Pokémon Center opened its doors in Tokyo during April 1998. This original location eventually closed and reopened at a different address within the city. The franchise grew slowly over the following years to reach seven locations by 2010. Pokémon Center Osaka became one of the larger stores with an area of 830 square meters. The company behind these shops is known as The Pokémon Company.

• 2. International Retail Presence

  A store appeared in New York City on the 16th of November 2001 inside Rockefeller Center. Nintendo operated this specific shop until it closed in 2005. That space later transformed into the Nintendo World Store before becoming Nintendo New York in 2016. Permanent international locations now exist in Singapore and Taiwan. A second permanent center outside Japan opened in Taipei on the 8th of December 2023 near the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store.

• 3. Pandemic Impact And Closures

  The COVID-19 pandemic reduced operations significantly across Japan. Only four Pokémon Centers remained open during the height of that global health crisis. The branch located in Okayama closed permanently during this period. Despite these losses, more than twenty locations existed in Japan as of 2023. These numbers reflect the resilience of the physical retail network despite external pressures.

• 4. Merchandise And Product Lines

  Real-world stores sell items such as action figures and plush toys to customers. Shoppers can also find cereal boxes and clothing within these specialty shops. Backpacks and badges are among the other goods available for purchase. These products differ from the fictional healing stations found within the game universe. The real stores focus entirely on selling merchandise rather than providing services.

  The Pokémon Company International launched an online store in 2014. This digital platform allows fans to shop without visiting a physical location. The website serves as a complement to the brick-and-mortar branches. It provides access to goods for those living far from major cities. The online system has evolved since its initial launch date.
