  • Pascal Siakam was born on the 2nd of April 1994 in Douala, Cameroon. He grew up as the youngest of four brothers in a family where his father worked for a local transit company and served as mayor of Makénéné. His early life followed a strict religious path when his parents enrolled him at St. Andrew's Seminary in Bafia at age 11. By the time he turned 15, he no longer wanted to become a Catholic priest. Basketball held little interest for him initially compared to his older brothers who earned scholarships to various NCAA Division I colleges. A local camp changed everything when Luc Mbah a Moute discovered him there. Mbah a Moute's home in Bafia sat just a short distance from the seminary. Siakam attended this camp for the first time in 2011 before graduating from St. Andrew's. He returned the following year after which scouts noticed his apparent athleticism and extremely high energy level. Raptors president Masai Ujiri recalled that effort being memorable during the Basketball Without Borders camp. At age 18, Siakam moved to the United States with Mbah a Moute acting as his mentor. He traveled from one training camp to another to hone his skills before settling in Lewisville, Texas.

  • Siakam enrolled at New Mexico State University in 2013 but redshirted the entire 2013, 14 season due to injury. He worked his way onto the Aggies' starting lineup by the 2014, 15 campaign earning Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honors. The 2015, 16 season saw him average 20.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks across 34 games. This performance earned him unanimous WAC Player of the Year honors on the court. On the 19th of April 2016, Siakam declared for the NBA draft while forgoing his final two years of college eligibility. Toronto selected him with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA draft. The franchise signed him to a rookie-scale contract on the 9th of July. His journey from a seminary student to an NBA prospect involved overcoming significant cultural and athletic hurdles. The Aggies' coach Marvin Menzies had kept Siakam on his radar since his pipeline of connections spanned several continents.

  • On the 26th of October 2016, Siakam became the first rookie to start for the Raptors' season-opener since Jonas Valančiūnas did so in 2012. He hauled in nine rebounds and scored four points in 21 minutes as Toronto beat the Detroit Pistons 109, 91. That game marked not only his NBA debut but also the first NBA game he had ever seen in person. During the 2016, 17 campaign, he started in up to 38 games at power forward because Jared Sullinger was out with injury. From the 21st of February through the 28th of April, he was alternately assigned to the Raptors 905 of the G League and recalled from it. Between those stints, he led Toronto's affiliate team to the finals helping them win a title by defeating the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 2, 1 in the series. After averaging 23 points and 9 rebounds in that series, he earned Finals Most Valuable Player honors. This achievement made him the first player to lead a G League team to a championship while simultaneously developing in the NBA system.

  • Heading into the 2018, 19 campaign, Siakam emerged as a two-way force averaging 16.9 points per night alongside 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He made a marked improvement in shooting from distance increasing his three-point percentage by 36 percent. On the 13th of February 2019, he racked up a new career-high 44 points hitting four three-pointers in a 129, 120 win over the Washington Wizards. In game 1 of the 2019 Finals, Siakam scored a then playoff career-high 32 points with eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks on 14-of-17 shooting from the field. The Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games capturing their first NBA championship in franchise history. At the awards ceremony later that month, Siakam was named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2018, 19 season. He became the first player to win both the Most Improved Player award and an NBA title in the same year. On the 19th of October 2019, Siakam agreed to a four-year, $130 million extension with Toronto.

  • On the 23rd of January 2020, Siakam was selected to his first career All-Star nod being named a starter in the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. This made him the first player to play in the G League to start in the All-Star game. On the 16th of September 2020, he was named to the All-NBA Second Team marking another milestone in his development. During the 2021, 22 season, Siakam started games at both center and point guard showing an ability to read double teams and make high level reads. He averaged a then-career-high 5.3 assists per game while playing a variety of roles depending on team needs. He is considered one of the best defenders in the NBA known for guarding opposing players from positions one through five. His efficiency as a rim protector combined with excellent perimeter defense earned him multiple All-NBA selections. By the end of the 2022, 23 season, he had recorded five career triple-doubles including a 37-point, 12-rebound, 11-assist performance against the Brooklyn Nets.

  • On the 17th of January 2024, Siakam was traded to the Indiana Pacers in a three-team trade exchanging Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora, Kira Lewis Jr. and three first-round draft picks. Two days later on the 19th of January, he made his Pacers debut scoring 21 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 118, 115 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers. On the 25th of January, he recorded his sixth career triple-double with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a 134, 122 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Pacers defeated the Knicks in seven games advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals marking their first appearance since 2014. They eventually lost the series to the eventual NBA champion Celtics in four games. On the 8th of July 2024, Siakam re-signed with the Pacers to a four-year, $189.5 million contract. In May 2025, he helped lead the Indiana Pacers to their second consecutive Eastern Conference Finals after averaging 24.8 points per game.

  • When his father died in a car crash in October 2014, Siakam was unable to attend the funeral because he waited for the issuance of a new U.S. visa. His three older brothers Boris, Christian and James all played NCAA Division I basketball in the United States at Western Kentucky, IUPUI and Vanderbilt respectively. He goes by the nickname Spicy P inspired by his iconic spin move. On the 14th of February 2023, Siakam and McDonald's Canada partnered on a limited edition McFlurry called the Siakam Swirl made with vanilla soft serve, hot fudge and crushed red Smarties.
