  • Nicholas Galitzine, the English actor whose surname is pronounced GAL-it-seen, once ate food worth 4000 calories every single day. The reason was a role that demands an outsized physique: He-Man, hero of the live action film Masters of the Universe, in which Galitzine plays Prince Adam. Bench-pressing and weightlifting filled his training, and filming wrapped in June 2025. Galitzine was born on the 29th of September 1994, and nothing in his teenage years pointed straight at a superhero. He was busy chasing a different career entirely. How does a young athlete end up playing princes, a Marine and a boy band singer? Why did a national newspaper once suggest he looked too good to play an outcast? And what does he want audiences to see when they look past his appearance?

  • Hammersmith, in West London, is where Galitzine was born, and he grew up close to the actor Robert Pattinson, whom he came to regard as his "career idol". His father, Geoffrey Leo Alexander Galitzine, co-founded a glass recycling company and had earlier worked as a financier in the City of London. The surname invites a guess about Russian aristocracy, and rumours do link him to the Golitsyn family, a noble house. He is not related to it. His grandfather, Edward Ralph Alexander Tier, simply changed his surname to Galitzine on the 9th of April 1956, and the traceable paternal ancestors are British.

His mother, Lora Maria Konstantina Papayanni, is Greek-American, and he has an older sister named Lexi. Holidays took the family to relatives in the Peloponnese, in Athens and on the islands. Those trips helped him feel connected to his Greek heritage. Back in London, school life revolved around sport.

At 13, Galitzine was already a smoker, and he later described his younger self as reckless. He attended Dulwich College, where he played rugby and football and took part in track events. He also played for the Harlequins Academy and hoped to become a professional rugby player. A run of injuries, including one to his rotator cuff, drained his enthusiasm, and he stopped playing.

A youth theatre company called Pleasance Islington became his next stage. Friends talked him into auditioning for a production of the musical Spring Awakening, and that is where his interest in acting began. He chose to pursue acting professionally rather than go to university, a route he had felt uncertain about anyway. His parents were "terrified" by the decision because the path was so unpredictable. To support himself he took part-time jobs, including one at a frozen yogurt shop, where his co-worker was Simone Ashley, who later also became a professional actor.

  • The Beat Beneath My Feet, released in 2014, gave Galitzine his professional debut, and he appeared in it alongside Luke Perry. He played a lonely teenager with musical dreams who blackmails his neighbour, a former rock star, into becoming his mentor. The Guardian criticised the casting, arguing that he was too conventionally attractive to be believable as an outcast.

In 2015 he took a guest role in the television series Legends, in the episode "The Legend of Terrence Graves". His character, Angelo, blackmails an MI6 agent over the agent's homosexual relations. Screen International named him a "Star of Tomorrow" that same year.

The year 2016 brought two leading parts. In the American drama High Strung he played Johnnie Blackwell, a young violinist who performs in a subway station. In the Irish comedy-drama Handsome Devil he played Conor Masters, a closeted gay student. The film earned five nominations at the 15th Irish Film & Television Awards, and Empire wrote that Galitzine "does good work" in showing Conor's inner conflict.

In 2017 he took part in the New Zealand mystery drama The Changeover and in the American television film The Watcher in the Woods. His first major television job came with the Netflix horror drama Chambers, where he played Elliott Lefevre in a main role across 10 episodes. In 2019 he appeared in the drama film Share.

  • In 2020, Galitzine played Timmy, a bisexual teenager, in The Craft: Legacy, a sequel to the 1996 film The Craft. A year later he was Prince Robert opposite Camila Cabello in the musical Cinderella, and he sang on seven songs from its soundtrack. That album came out on the 3rd of September 2021. It reached number 127 on the US chart, 86 in Australia and 94 in Spain. His debut single, "Comfort", followed in June 2022.

The Netflix film Purple Hearts reached viewers on the 29th of July 2022, and it became his breakthrough. He played Luke Morrow, a United States Marine who marries Cassie Salazar, played by Sofia Carson, so that she can receive military benefits. The two then fall in love, which neither expected. Before shooting, Galitzine went through basic Marine training.

  • In 2023, Emma Seligman's sex comedy Bottoms gave Galitzine the part of Jeff, a high school football player. He said he had been eager to try comedy and enjoyed improvising on set. The same year he played the fictional Prince Henry in Red, White & Royal Blue, a romantic comedy based on a 2019 novel of the same name. Taylor Zakhar Perez played opposite him.

The film launched on Amazon Prime Video and became the streaming service's number one movie worldwide. Over its opening weekend it ranked among the three most-watched romantic comedies ever. Rolling Stone and ABC News praised Galitzine, and the 4th Astra TV Awards nominated him for Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie. He is due to return as Henry in a sequel, Red, White & Royal Wedding, directed by Jamie Babbit.

Screenwriter D. C. Moore sent Galitzine the script for Mary & George, and he became "fascinated" by the story. The 2024 Sky Studios historical psychodrama cast him as George Villiers beside Julianne Moore. He called the part a "slam dunk". Lucy Mangan of The Guardian said he gave depth to a character the story otherwise treated superficially. Alison Herman of Variety saw it as a significant shift from his romantic comedy roles in Red, White & Royal Blue and The Idea of You.

  • An Alabama Shakes song decided the casting of The Idea of You. Galitzine chose it for his audition, and it set off a spontaneous dance between him and Anne Hathaway. The 2024 film is based on a novel of the same name. Hathaway plays a divorced mother who starts a relationship with Hayes Campbell, a member of the fictional boy band August Moon, played by Galitzine.

To prepare, he attended a "boy band boot camp" of dance rehearsals and stage training. He was the only cast member to sing on the soundtrack, and he performed every August Moon song. He finished recording in under a week. The executive music producer, Savan Kotecha, built the songs around Galitzine's voice after hearing his audition. The soundtrack album was released on the 2nd of May 2024.

Critics compared August Moon to One Direction, though Galitzine said Hayes Campbell was not modelled on Harry Styles. While promoting the film, he told GQ he was uncomfortable being judged mainly on his looks and wanted to be taken seriously as an actor. The film's title song drew nominations from the Guild of Music Supervisors Awards and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. In 2024, the Gold Derby Awards also nominated Galitzine for Breakthrough Performer of the Year.

  • Galitzine was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as a child. He has spoken openly about struggling with impostor syndrome despite his success in acting. Away from work, he supports the football club Arsenal.

In 2023, the luxury house Fendi named him its first global menswear ambassador, and he modelled in the brand's menswear campaign for Fall/Winter 2023-24. In 2024 he formed a partnership with the dating app Bumble. Emporio Armani later named him its global fragrance ambassador. He also made his Met Gala debut in 2024.

  • Wings of Freedom, a Mexican animated adventure announced in 2024, marks Galitzine's first lead role in voice acting, with Eva Longoria also in the cast. He voices Lieutenant Pirro, a Swift in an animal airforce, who must stop an artificial intelligence called Eternity from taking control of the world. Co-producer Gregory Ouanhon said Galitzine was hired for "a certain panache, elegance and a presence, in addition to a great sense of humor".

In April 2025 came word that he would star opposite Bill Skarsgård in The Mosquito Bowl, directed by Peter Berg and drawn from a book by Buzz Bissinger. The story centres on a football game played during World War II. Filming began in Queensland in August of that year, with Galitzine playing John McLaughry. He also played Manfred in 100 Nights of Hero, released in December 2025. The ensemble comedy The Sheep Detectives, in which he plays Elliot Matthews, was released on the 8th of May 2026.

A month after the Mosquito Bowl announcement, it was reported that he would lead The Return Of Stanley Atwell alongside Ella Purnell. That film is still listed as being in post-production.
