  News Corporation purchased a controlling interest in Hughes Electronics for $6.6 billion on the 9th of April 2003. The Federal Communications Commission approved the deal with specific conditions requiring neutral content distribution. Liberty Media later acquired News Corp's stake in an $11 billion transaction completed in 2008. AT&T announced its purchase of DirecTV for approximately $67.1 billion on the 18th of May 2014. The acquisition received final approval from regulators on the 24th of July 2015. This massive deal brought DirecTV under the same umbrella as HBO, Cinemax, and Warner Bros.
