Norman was reinstated in 1992 after admitting his involvement. Vrablic never played for Canada again.
In 1990, Canada hosted the North American Nations Cup with Mexico and the United States participating. John Catliff scored all three Canadian goals, winning 1, 0 against the U.S. on May 6 and 2, 1 against Mexico on May 13. He finished as the tournament's top scorer. The team qualified for the 1994 World Cup play-off but lost to Australia on penalties after a 2, 1 aggregate score.

Many established players opted not to attend the 2023 Gold Cup held later that summer.
Mauro Biello guided the team through the quarter-finals of the 2023, 24 Nations League A in November 2023. Victory in a two-legged aggregate match or away goals rule against Jamaica would send them to semi-finals and qualify them for Copa América. After defeating Jamaica 2, 1 in the away leg, Canada needed only a draw in the home match at BMO Field. Leading halfway through, they collapsed to lose 3, 2 in the second half and 3, 2 on away goals.
