Independent producer Justin Leach and his company Qubic Pictures facilitated discussions across continents when physical travel became impossible during a global pandemic.
On the 10th of December 2020, it was announced that the series would consist of ten short films by different animation studios set in the Star Wars universe. The number decreased from ten to nine because The Ninth Jedi originally started as two episodes but merged into one.

Del Rey Books published Ronin A Visions Novel written by Emma Mieko Candon which built upon The Duel story starting March twenty-first two thousand and twenty-one with an October twelfth two thousand and twenty-one release date. An art book containing creator interviews plus selected production materials appeared via Dark Horse Comics on April twelfth two thousand and twenty-two covering all nine shorts collectively.
Rotten Tomatoes reported a 96% approval rating with an average score of 8.2 out of ten based on fifty-three reviews for the first season. Volume two achieved perfect scores across multiple aggregators including Rotten Tomatoes' hundred percent approval and Metacritic's eighty-eight point average.
