The first issue of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine was published on the 23rd of September 1997, with a cover date of October 1997. It was released by Ziff Davis Media as a monthly magazine focused exclusively on PlayStation hardware and software.
Each issue of OPM came with a disc containing playable PlayStation game demos and non-playable video footage. Later discs also included recorded interviews, industry event coverage, and video walkthroughs of games. All demo discs were developed by LifeLike Productions, Inc.
Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine published its final issue with a cover date of January 2007, ending a run of nearly ten years. It was replaced as the official Sony platform magazine when PSM rebranded as PlayStation: The Official Magazine in December 2007.
OPM covered the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable. The magazine transitioned to including PlayStation 2 demo discs beginning with issue 49 in October 2001, while issues 50, 52, and 54 were the last to include original PlayStation demo discs.
Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine was published by Ziff Davis Media. It was a sister publication of Electronic Gaming Monthly, another Ziff Davis title covering the broader games industry.
Editions of the magazine existed in Sweden, Finland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Brazil, and Australia. The Belgian edition was also distributed in the Netherlands.
