Colin Trevorrow's first feature directorial debut was Safety Not Guaranteed, released in 2012. The science fiction comedy was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. Colin Trevorrow founded Metronome Film Co. in 2019. The company is based across London and Los Angeles, and its first banner release, Deep Cover, is set for release by Amazon MGM Studios on the 12th of June, 2025.
The ad appeared in a 1997 issue of Backwoods Home Magazine and read: "Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 322, Oakview, CA 93022. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before." Derek Connolly wrote the screenplay based on this ad, intending Trevorrow to direct.
