  Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures hired Connolly to rewrite Kong Skull Island in 2017. He worked alongside Jordan Vogt-Roberts during production of the monster movie. Earlier in his career he co-wrote uncredited early drafts of Pacific Rim Uprising with Guillermo del Toro and others. Steven S. DeKnight eventually took over writing duties for that project. Connolly also contributed to Detective Pikachu in 2019 as a co-writer. These projects placed him at the center of the expanding MonsterVerse cinematic universe.
