  Mark Sinclair Vincent arrived in New York City during the late 1960s, born on the 18th of July 1967. He grew up in Alameda County before moving to Manhattan with his fraternal twin brother Paul. His mother Delora Sherleen Vincent worked as an astrologer while his adoptive father Irving H. Vincent managed theaters and taught acting. The young Mark found himself inside a theater space called Theater for the New City on Jane Street. He had broken into the building with friends intending to cause damage but instead met artistic director Crystal Field. She offered him a role in a children's play titled Dinosaur Door written by Barbara Garson. This performance marked his stage debut at age seven. He continued working in theater throughout his teenage years while attending Hunter College. Creative writing studies there led him to begin screenwriting projects of his own.

  Vin Diesel decided to fund his own short film after struggling to find acting roles in the early 1990s. He wrote directed produced and starred in Multi-Facial which premiered at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. The semi-autobiographical drama followed a multiracial actor stuck in the audition process. He supported himself financially by working as a bouncer and selling lightbulbs through telemarketing. A year later he secured funds to make Strays, an urban drama about a gang leader seeking redemption. The film competed at the 1997 Sundance Festival and earned an MTV deal that never materialized. Steven Spielberg noticed Diesel during screenings of Multi-Facial and cast him as Private Adrian Caparzo in Saving Private Ryan. That 1998 war film became his first major Hollywood role and launched his career trajectory toward stardom.

  Diesel appeared alongside Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Affleck in the 2000 drama thriller Boiler Room. Later that same year he landed his breakthrough leading role as Richard B. Riddick in Pitch Black. He gained global fame playing Dominic Toretto in The Fast and the Furious released in 2001. His character Xander Cage debuted in XXX two years later. He turned down sequels for both franchises to focus on The Chronicles of Riddick instead. That 2004 science fiction film failed commercially despite its large budget. He returned to action comedy with The Pacifier which succeeded at the box office in 2005. A dramatic turn as mobster Jack DiNorscio in Find Me Guilty received critical praise but grossed only $2 million against a $13 million budget.   Diesel provided the title character voice for The Iron Giant released in 1999. He performed motion capture and voice work for video games including The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. That game arrived in 2004 followed by Assault on Dark Athena in 2009. He voiced Groot I and Groot II within the Marvel Cinematic Universe beginning with Guardians of the Galaxy. The character appeared in six films plus Disney+ shorts series I Am Groot running from 2022 to 2023. Additional animated credits included Ralph Breaks the Internet and Thor: Love and Thunder. He also lent his voice to Fast & Furious Spy Racers and Ark: The Animated Series. Critics noted his distinctive deep voice which developed around age fifteen when it broke naturally.

  2023 former assistant Asta Jonasson sued him for sexual battery and retaliation. The lawsuit alleged incidents occurred in 2010 during filming of Fast Five at Atlanta's St. Regis Hotel. Claims included forced physical contact and inappropriate touching within his hotel suite. She stated she was fired days later believing it retaliatory against her resistance. The four claims under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act were dismissed due to missing administrative deadlines. Remaining claims moved toward jury trial but were delayed and dropped in November. His relationship with Mexican model Paloma Jimenez has lasted since 2007 producing three children together.
