  The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter begins in a world where hidden dungeons are the stuff of legend. Few people ever find one. Noir Stardia found one. What he discovered inside was more surprising than any treasure: Olivia Servant, a legendary adventurer, had been imprisoned there for centuries. Noir himself had never wanted adventure. He was the third son of a baronet, the lowest-ranking noble title, and he had planned to work quietly as a librarian. That plan ended when more prominent nobles blocked his application. The series was written by Meguru Seto, with illustrations by Note Takehana, and first appeared online in January 2017. What it asks is deceptively simple: what do you do when power you never wanted lands in your hands, and using it could kill you?

• 2. The People Around Noir

  Emma Brightness is Noir's childhood friend and his first love. She had taken a part-time librarian role just to be near him. When his own plans changed, she quit to take the hero's exam alongside him. Emma can ease the aftereffects of Noir's most powerful skill through kissing, an arrangement that starts as practical relief and deepens into genuine affection. She plans to marry him.

  Lola is a receptionist at Odin, the guild where Noir takes his quests. She has strong feelings for him and tolerates his unintentional harem building with apparent patience. Luna, a half-elf cleric and Lola's best friend, enters the story when a duke's daughter at the hero academy needs a curse removed. Luna's curse purification abilities are rare enough that very few people share them. In their original form, those abilities shortened her own lifespan with each use. Noir restructures the cost entirely, shifting the toll from her years to her finances. She develops feelings for Noir after their adventure together, much to Emma's and Lola's dismay. Noir's younger sister is the youngest of four siblings, and her devotion to him runs to what the series calls a brother complex.

  Olivia Servant functions as Noir's master. She is waiting for the day Noir becomes strong enough to shatter the Death Chains. Her method of accelerating his growth is both generous and dangerous.

• 3. The Cost of Power

  Olivia gives Noir three abilities in the dungeon: Create, Bestow, and Edit. All three allow him to upgrade and modify the powers of himself or others. The currency for doing so is LP, short for Life Points. LP accumulates through joyful experiences. If his total ever reaches zero, Noir dies. That is the entire risk, stated plainly.

  Noir was also born with a fourth ability: Great Sage. It grants access to unlimited knowledge for a stretch of time, placing it among the rarest skills in the world. The headaches that follow each use are severe enough that Noir avoids the ability whenever possible. With Great Sage and the three abilities from Olivia, Noir enrolls at the Hero Academy. Emma is there alongside him, which means the source of LP that matters most to him is always close at hand.

• 4. From Web to Print

  Kodansha published the first print volume of the light novel on the 1st of August 2017, under their Ranobe Books imprint. The story had originated as a free web serial on Shosetsuka ni Naro, where Seto's chapters ran until February 2021. Six volumes of the light novel ultimately appeared under the Ranobe Books label.

  Tomoyuki Hino drew a manga adaptation that began running on Suiyobi no Sirius on the 2nd of May 2018. Suiyobi no Sirius is a manga service connected to the Niconico platform. That serialization ran through the 20th of June 2023. Its chapters were compiled into twelve tankobonvolumes, published from the 6th of December 2018 through the 9th of April 2024. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and the manga for North American readers. The first manga volume reached North America on the 17th of November 2020. Kodansha's announcement of an anime had preceded that, arriving on the 8th of May 2020.

• 5. The Anime Adaptation

  Kenta Onishi directed the anime adaptation, with Kenta Ihara writing the series composition and Yuya Uetake designing the characters. Okuruto Noboru handled the animation. The show ran for 12 episodes, airing from the 9th of January to the 27th of March 2021, on the Animeism block. Four Japanese broadcasters carried it: MBS, TBS, BS-TBS, and AT-X.

  Crunchyroll handled international streaming outside Asia; Bilibili streamed the series in Southeast Asia. The opening theme, used from episode 2 onwards, was performed by Spira Spica. COALAMODE performed the ending theme. On the 8th of February 2021, Crunchyroll announced an English dub. It debuted on the 26th of February, extending the series' audience well beyond the readers who had followed Meguru Seto's original chapters.
