  • Matthew Robinson was born on the 26th of May 1978. He first gained attention as a member of The Trilambs, a satirical hip-hop group. His stage name within that band was Matty Boom. The group released their only full album titled It Wasn't Not Funny in 2001. They also put out a second EP called The Jacket Smasher EP with six songs. Their lyrics mocked the excessive world of rap culture. They specifically targeted materialism and homophobia in their work. The list featured the most liked un-produced scripts in Hollywood at the time. Producer Lynda Obst sent the script to Ricky Gervais without prior introduction. Gervais loved the concept immediately. He flew Robinson to London to retool the project together. The resulting film became The Invention of Lying in 2009. Robinson co-directed the movie alongside Gervais. The original idea grew from a skit about two people unable to lie on a date.

Reports emerged on the 7th of December 2016 that Greg Berlanti would direct a new version of The Little Shop of Horrors. Robinson was attached to write that screenplay. By March 2019 he had rewritten the Edge of Tomorrow sequel. Warner Bros developed the project during that period. He also worked on a Star Wars spin-off called Rogue Squadron before its cancellation in March 2023.

  • Robinson co-hosted Get Up On This with Jensen Karp starting in August 2011. They discussed topics they believed everyone should know about. A guest joined them for each episode. The show ran until October 2018 and produced 371 episodes total. Ali Segel and Erin Mallory Long eventually replaced them as hosts. They also created a podcast within a podcast called Get Up Off This. That series focused on things people should not like. On the 22nd of March 2019 he launched Game Brain: A Board Game Podcast. It featured discussions about board games with various guests.

  • His directorial work includes The Invention of Lying released in 2009. He played Person #4 in that same film. He directed Jerked which came out in 2014. He served as producer on Monster Trucks alongside Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. Dora and the Lost City of Gold arrived in 2019 with Nicholas Stoller. Love and Monsters followed in 2020 with Brian Duffield. Two projects are scheduled for release in 2026 including Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die. Another project titled 11817 is currently filming.
