That description points to a specific technical ambition. The 12-inch recording layered live Latin percussion overdubs on top of Roland TR-808 beats, a combination that pulled two very different rhythmic worlds into the same frame. Warp 9 also incorporated both singing and rapping on the same track, a move that was far from standard in 1983. The track was written by Lotti Golden and Richard Scher, who also produced it alongside John "Jellybean" Benitez.
