When AI Overviews appear alongside Featured Snippets they occupy approximately 67.1% of desktop screens. Mobile devices show an even higher displacement at 75.7% of the visible area.
In May 2024 Google temporarily restricted the tool after it suggested eating rocks. Another instance involved advice to apply glue on pizza when searching about cheese sticking.
Chegg sued Alphabet on the 24th of February 2025 over the feature's impact on students. The company claimed low-quality unverified AI summaries violated antitrust law.
