Author Aka Akasaka began writing Oshi no Ko after hearing complaints about the entertainment industry from streamers while working on the live-action film adaptation of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. The series debuted in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on the 23rd of April 2020.
