Since Tom Sweep all Dudok de Wit's films have his trademark brush stroke drawing and his use of ink and watercolour. He applies these materials directly to create texture and movement throughout each frame.
His film Father and Daughter released in 2000 won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. The same movie took home a BAFTA Award and the Grand Prix at Annecy.
In 2016, he released the feature-length film The Red Turtle. This project marked his debut as a director of a full-length animated movie.
