Matthew Robinson is an American screenwriter, film director, author, actor, and podcaster born on the 26th of May 1978. He is best known for co-writing and co-directing The Invention of Lying (2009) with English comedian Ricky Gervais.
Robinson's script, then titled This Side of Truth, appeared on the 2007 official Black List of the most-liked unproduced Hollywood screenplays. Robinson and producer Lynda Obst sent it to Gervais unsolicited; Gervais loved it and flew Robinson to London to retool the script, which became The Invention of Lying.
Robinson was a member of The Trilambs, a satirical hip-hop group in which he performed under the name Matty Boom. The group released their only album, It Wasn't Not Funny, in 2001, along with a six-song EP called The Jacket Smasher EP.
Robinson wrote the original script for Monster Trucks (2016), receiving a story credit, and has writing credits on Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019) and Love and Monsters (2020). He was also reported to be writing the Rogue Squadron Star Wars spin-off before its cancellation in March 2023.
Get Up On This ran from August 2011 until October 2018, producing 371 episodes. Robinson co-hosted it with Jensen Karp, and they chose Ali Segel and Erin Mallory Long to replace them when the show ended.
