In 1999, he created the original Silent Hill series as its director and writer. Team Silent operated under his creative direction until that same year concluded when he departed to join Japan Studio.
Critics recognized Gravity Rush by awarding him the outstanding performance award at the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival. The excellence award from the Japan Game Awards also honored his contributions that same year.
