Arwen's name, "Ar-wen," means "noble maiden" in the Elvish language Sindarin. She was also given the title Evenstar, marking her as the most beautiful of the last generation of High Elves remaining in Middle-earth.
Arwen chose mortality out of love for Aragorn. On the mound of Cerin Amroth in Lothlórien, she committed to marrying him and agreed to remain in Middle-earth, giving up Elvish immortality and any passage to the Undying Lands.
Liv Tyler played Arwen in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The films gave her a significantly more prominent role than in Tolkien's novel, including having her single-handedly rescue Frodo Baggins from the Black Riders at the Fords of Bruinen.
