  Sven Hedin, born in 1865 and died in 1952, was a Swedish explorer and geographer whose expeditions made him one of the most widely known figures to carry the name in the early twentieth century. Sven Markelius, born in 1889 and died in 1972, shaped Swedish architecture over several decades. Sven Nykvist, born in 1922 and died in 2006, worked as a Swedish cinematographer.

  Sven Allard, born in 1896 and died in 1975, served as a Swedish diplomat. Sven Backlund, born in 1917 and died in 1997, also had a Swedish diplomatic career. Sven Hassel, born in 1917 and died in 2012, was a Danish-born soldier and writer whose work brought the name to a literary readership.

  Sven Dufva is the main character of a poem within The Tales of Ensign Stål, a work written by J. L. Runeberg. That literary Sven stands at the older end of the fictional tradition bearing the name.

  Sven, Kristoff's pet reindeer in the film Frozen, brought the name to a global animated audience. A puffin named Sven appears in Happy Feet Two. Sven the Berserk appears in the 1989 film Erik the Viking, played by Tim McInnerny. Sven Hjerson is a fictional Finnish detective.

  Sven and Ole is a character type found in jokes told by Scandinavian-Americans, showing how the name became embedded in a folk-humor tradition within immigrant communities. "Sven from Swiss Cottage" was a persona used by comedian Peter Cook during radio phone-ins, while a character simply called Sven appears as a silent scorer on the BBC radio programme I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.

  In games, Sven appears as a hero in Dota 2, which grew out of the custom Warcraft III map Defense of the Ancients. A Nord character named Sven also appears in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
