  Global Beatles Day falls on the 25th of June each year, and the reason traces back to a single broadcast. On that date in 1967, the Beatles performed 'All You Need Is Love' live on the BBC program Our World. Satellite technology carried the performance to an estimated 400 million viewers in more than 20 countries. It is regarded as a defining moment of the 1960s counterculture. That broadcast, decades later, became the anchor for an annual holiday created by a single American fan without any institutional backing.

  In 2009, Faith Cohen launched the observance she would call 'a thank you or love letter' to the Beatles. She was based in Indianapolis and built the holiday from the ground up through social media. No record label or official cultural body stood behind it. Cohen shaped the day around the Beatles' artistic achievements and their messages of peace, love, and global unity. She set no single prescribed format for how it should be observed. That open structure would leave room for forms of celebration she likely did not anticipate when she first began.

  Cuba organized a Beatles film festival for the occasion in 2018, one of the more formally structured national observances the holiday has produced. Across most of the world, there is no single ritual. Fans listen to or perform Beatles songs, watch related films or documentaries, and share material under the hashtag #GlobalBeatlesDay. Online celebrations have included a joint live concert on Bigo Live and an Amazon tie-in. Beatles-themed comic strips have circulated as well, created and collected specifically for the anniversary date. The holiday is also known as World Beatles Day. The alternate name circulates alongside the original, a sign that the observance was always intended to extend well beyond its starting point.
