Center for Climate and Energy Solutions.
~3 min read · Ch. 1 of 6
The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions launched in 2011 as the successor to the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. This transition marked a new chapter for an organization based in Arlington, Virginia. The original Pew Center had operated since 1998 under the leadership of Eileen Claussen. Her tenure established the foundation for what would become C2ES. The shift from Pew to C2ES was not merely a name change but a strategic evolution. It allowed the group to expand its scope beyond just climate change to include energy solutions. The new entity aimed to bridge gaps between business leaders and environmental advocates. This structural change set the stage for future policy work.
Leadership And Governance
Nathaniel Keohane took office as president of C2ES in July 2021. He arrived after serving as Senior Vice President for Climate at the Environmental Defense Fund. His background included time as Special Assistant to the President for Energy and Environment under Barack Obama. Before him, Bob Perciasepe led the organization from 2014 to 2021. Perciasepe previously served as deputy administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Now he acts as a senior adviser to the current team. The board of directors is chaired by Theodore Roosevelt IV. These individuals bring decades of experience from government and private sectors. Their combined expertise guides the organization's direction on complex issues.
