• 1. Founding And Early Development

  Adam Goldstein and Brett Adcock established Archer Aviation on the 16th of October 2018. The two former classmates launched the company from their shared vision to build electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. They began with private funding before securing support from Marc Lore, a Walmart executive who joined the effort early. Their initial work focused on developing technology through partnerships with academic institutions. Goldstein and Adcock are alumni of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida. This connection led to the creation of a research lab on the Gainesville campus funded by both founders. The university partnership provided a foundation for testing concepts that would eventually become full-scale prototypes.

• 2. Maker Prototype Milestones

  The Maker demonstrator aircraft appeared publicly on the 10th of June 2021 during an event in Los Angeles, California. This fully electric machine featured twelve propellers arranged across its frame. Six tilt-props with five blades each handled forward flight while six stationary aft propellers managed vertical lift. Power came from six independent battery packs distributed throughout the airframe. Flight test operations commenced after the Federal Aviation Administration issued an airworthiness certificate in December 2021. The first actual flight took place later that same month at the company's dedicated facility. A critical milestone arrived on the 29th of November 2022 when Maker achieved full transition from vertical to horizontal flight. This validation step confirmed the flight control systems worked as designed for future production models.

• 3. Midnight Production Aircraft

  Archer unveiled its Midnight production vehicle on the 17th of November 2022 at an event in Palo Alto, California. This four-passenger craft was designed to carry a pilot and complete rapid back-to-back flights with minimal charge time between missions. The aircraft travels at speeds up to 150 miles per hour with a maximum range of 100 miles. It retains the twelve-propeller configuration seen in earlier prototypes but optimized for commercial service. On the 12th of June 2024, Midnight completed its first transition flight marking progress toward certification. By 2024, the team had flown over 400 test flights across various configurations. The company planned to enter service by 2025 following expected FAA approval in late 2024.

• 4. Strategic Partnerships And Funding

  United Airlines became Archer's first major corporate partner by ordering two hundred electric aircraft. In August 2022, United paid a ten million dollar deposit for one hundred units. A partnership with Stellantis began in January 2023 when the automobile manufacturer provided up to 150 million dollars in equity capital. This agreement made Stellantis the exclusive contract manufacturer for mass producing the eVTOL fleet. Additional collaborations included agreements with Southwest Airlines announced in July 2024 to develop operational concepts. These partnerships secured necessary capital and manufacturing support while expanding potential routes. The company went public via an initial public offering on the 20th of September 2021 under the ticker symbol ACHR.

• 5. Regulatory Certifications And Operations

  The Federal Aviation Administration granted Archer Part 135 Air Carrier and Operator Certificate on the 5th of June 2024. This approval allowed the company to begin operating air taxi services commercially. Further regulatory progress came in February 2025 when the agency issued Part 141 certification enabling pilot training programs. Service operations were initially planned for Miami and Los Angeles before being pushed back to 2025. United Airlines and Archer announced plans for routes connecting Newark Liberty International Airport to Downtown Manhattan Heliport. Another route between O'Hare International Airport and Vertiport Chicago was scheduled for March 2023 implementation. Urban Movement Labs and local transportation departments helped build infrastructure needed for these new networks.

• 6. Global Expansion And Infrastructure

  Archer conducted its first test flight outside the United States in July 2025 at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi. High heat, humidity, and dust conditions tested performance under UAE-specific environmental factors. The flight received support from the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council and observed by senior officials from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority. In November 2025, the company acquired Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Los Angeles for one hundred twenty-six million dollars. This purchase provided a dedicated hub for eVTOL craft operations. A partnership with Dubai-based Jetex signed at the Paris Air Show in June 2025 expanded international reach. Jetex will provide access to private terminals supporting Midnight air taxi services across the region.
