Arca Continental
Arca Continental serves around 123 million people across five countries, producing and distributing Coca-Cola and snacks across a wide stretch of the Americas. Its beverage territory spans northern and western Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, and parts of Argentina and the southwestern United States. At the start of this century, the company that would become Arca Continental did not yet exist. Several separate Mexican bottling operations held the regional Coca-Cola franchise between them. What those operations became, once they decided to combine, took more than two decades to fully take shape.
In 2001, three Mexican bottling companies combined to create Arca. The three were Argos, Arma, and Procor. Each was controlled by a different family: the Fernández family held Argos, the Arizpe Narro family held Arma, and the Barragán family held Procor. Joining forces instantly made Arca the second-largest Coca-Cola bottler in Mexico. At that point, Arca distributed its products only in northern Mexico. During the years that followed, the company began acquiring other businesses in Mexico, Argentina, and Ecuador.
Grupo Continental operated out of Tampico, Tamaulipas, as an established Coca-Cola bottler in its own right. In 2011, Arca and Grupo Continental agreed to merge their operations under the new name Arca Continental. Analysts estimated at the time that combined sales would reach about 1.2 billion. That combined scale positioned Arca Continental to make moves that neither Arca nor Grupo Continental could have managed separately.
Wise Foods and Inalecsa joined the Arca Continental portfolio in 2012. Wise and its companion brand Deep River gave the company branded snack products for the American market. Inalecsa served the Ecuadorian market with its own distinct lineup. In Mexico, the Bokados label had already established the company in snacks domestically. The beverage territory broadened as well, reaching Ecuador, Peru, and the northern region of Argentina. A direct deal with the Coca-Cola Company itself would later bring the American beverage franchise into view.
In 2017, Arca Continental announced it had closed a transaction with the Coca-Cola Company to acquire Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company. The deal operated through Arca Continental's subsidiary Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. The acquired franchise covers parts of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas. In May 2018, Arca Continental announced plans to build the first new bottling plant in the United States in over a decade. The plant carried a price tag of $250 million. It became fully operational in March 2020. That opening gave Arca Continental dedicated manufacturing capacity in the United States alongside the southwestern franchise it had acquired three years earlier.
