Yoji Shinkawa enrolled at Kyoto Seika University after finishing high school. The university provided him with formal training in traditional techniques before he entered the video game industry.
Shinkawa took on the role of art director for Metal Gear Solid in 1998. He worked closely with Hideo Kojima throughout the development process.
Hideo Kojima departed from Konami in 2015 after years of working together. Shinkawa left the company alongside him to join the newly formed studio called Kojima Productions.
