Local historians and the city administration support 990 as the official founding date of Vladimir Russia through reinterpreted passages in the Hypatian Codex. The Charter of Vladimir passed in 2005 explicitly codified 990 as the foundation date after shifting from the Soviet-era decree which had established 1108 as the birth year.
Andrey Bogolyubsky oversaw the construction of the Dormition Cathedral between 1158 and 1160 using scores of masons from Russia, Germany, and Georgia.
