The Beatles' rooftop concert took place on the 30th of January 1969, beginning at around 12:30 pm. It lasted 42 minutes and was performed from the rooftop of Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row in central London.
The Metropolitan Police arrived in response to noise complaints from local businesses and stopped the concert. Officers Ray Dagg and Ray Shayler came to Apple's reception area, and after Apple employees refused them entry, the officers threatened arrest. Mal Evans then cut power to the amplifiers, ending the performance.
Billy Preston was a keyboardist brought into the Get Back sessions by George Harrison on the 22nd of January 1969. Harrison hoped that a talented outside musician would encourage the group to play with more focus and discipline. Preston joined the band on rooftop and played a Fender Rhodes electric piano.
The Beatles played nine complete takes of five songs: three takes of "Get Back", two takes each of "Don't Let Me Down" and "I've Got a Feeling", and single takes of "One After 909" and "Dig a Pony". They also performed a brief version of "God Save the Queen".
At the conclusion of the final song, John Lennon said: "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we've passed the audition." The line became one of the most quoted moments in rock history.
On the 28th of January 2022, Apple Corps, Capitol Records, and Universal Music Enterprises released the full audio of the rooftop performance to streaming services in Dolby Atmos under the title Get Back - The Rooftop Performance. Disney also released the concert sequence in IMAX in February 2022 as The Beatles: Get Back - The Rooftop Concert.
