Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist was created by Joey Ansah and Christian Howard. The two had previously made Street Fighter: Legacy in 2010 as a proof-of-concept short film, and Capcom granted them rights to produce the full series in 2012.
The web series was released on Machinima's YouTube channel on the 23rd of May 2014. IFC Films later released the recompiled film version on the 7th of January 2015.
Filming took place in Simeonovo, Sofia, Bulgaria. Production began on the 14th of July 2013 and wrapped on the 24th of August 2013.
The series has a 94% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was described as the best and most faithful live-action adaptation of the Street Fighter franchise. IGN rated it 8.7 out of 10.
Joey Ansah, one of the series' co-creators, plays the older Gouki, known as Akuma. Gaku Space plays the younger version of the character.
A sequel titled Street Fighter: World Warrior was in development but was scrapped. It was replaced by Street Fighter: Resurrection, a tie-in series to the video game Street Fighter V.
