Star Wars: Princess Leia was written by Mark Waid with art by Terry Dodson and colors by Jordie Bellaire, published by Marvel Comics. Editor Jordan D. White brought Waid onto the project because Leia was his favorite character.

Star Wars: Princess Leia #1 was the best-selling comic of March 2015 and finished as the tenth best-selling issue of the year for Diamond Comic Distributors. Its trade paperback sold an estimated 6,782 copies in November 2015, ranking third that month behind Star Wars: Shattered Empire.
The main characters in Star Wars: Princess Leia are Princess Leia and Evaan Verlaine, an Alderaanian royalist and Rebel pilot who joins her search. R2-D2 accompanies them throughout, and Nien Nunb, a native of Sullust, helps them locate survivors hiding on his home planet.
