Napoleon's chef created Chicken Marengo using only ingredients found on the battlefield shortly after the fighting ended. He used his sabre as a makeshift cooking knife when no proper tools were available to prepare the meal from whatever game or vegetables could be scavenged.
The Società di Marengo founded a chemical plant adjacent to the town in 1905 within what is known as the industrial triangle between Milan, Genoa, and Turin. Solvay (now Syensqo) took over operations and began producing fluorotensioactives like Hyflon and Algoflon until 2023 before the facility declined to around 600 workers by 2025.
Widespread pollution due to chromium infiltration into local aquifers came to light near the Spinetta Marengo plant in 1941. Tests conducted in 2012 revealed hexavalent chromium present under the facility across 1,150 cubic meters within a three-kilometer radius, linked to statistically significant increases in melanomas and cancers of the lung, bladder, and kidney.
The Villa Delavo museum opened in 1847 and now houses murals, videos, maps, and mannequins dressed in vintage uniforms related to Napoleon's campaign. A pyramid structure dedicated to those who died at the battle was inaugurated on the 2nd of May 2009, echoing Napoleon’s original wish to honor the fallen.
