Steve Wozniak announced the founding of SiliCon on the 17th of April 2015 in San Jose. The idea was developed through a collaboration between Wozniak and comic book legend Stan Lee to create Silicon Valley Comic Con.
The convention was originally named Silicon Valley Comic Con before it changed its name to SiliCon on the 20th of February 2020. This rebranding occurred when Adam Savage was appointed as the new creative director.
The inaugural event took place from the 18th to the 20th of March 2016 at the McEnery Convention Center. This location hosted the diverse array of guests and activities that defined the early years of the convention.
The 2023 event was officially canceled due to the cumulative impact of the global health crisis and persistent funding issues. Organizers cited these factors as the primary reasons for the discontinuation of the event.
GalaxyCon debuted at the San Jose Convention Center in 2024 to fill the void left by SiliCon. This new convention operates without the same unique blend of technology and storytelling that characterized the original event.
