The fictional world of Remnant contains four kingdoms: Vale, Mistral, Atlas, and Vacuo. Malevolent monsters known as Creatures of Grimm constantly assault these human settlements while two opposing brother deities once oversaw the world before humanity was obliterated by their actions.
Following Monty Oum's death in 2015 during production of volume three, the series underwent significant changes. Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross became the sole writers starting with volume four.
Rooster Teeth announced plans to sell RWBY IP rights following their shutdown announcement in March 2024. Viz Media acquired the intellectual property on the 5th of July 2024.
The show won Best Animated Series at the 4th Streamy Awards in 2014 and again in 2015, 2016, and 2017. It contributed to a nine percent increase in views for Rooster Teeth's YouTube channel by mid-2013.
