Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima was born on the 18th of September 1976 in Itaguaí, a small town near Rio de Janeiro. He grew up playing football on the streets of Bento Ribeiro after his parents separated when he was only 11 years old.
On the 21st of November 1999, Ronaldo felt his knee buckle and had to limp off the field during a match against Lecce. Medical examinations confirmed he had ruptured a tendon requiring surgery, and his physiotherapist Nilton Petrone later described the situation as the worst football injury he had ever seen.
Ronaldo scored ten goals in fourteen games helping Corinthians win the Campeonato Paulista and twelve goals in twenty matches finishing the 2009 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. He announced his retirement concluding an 18-year career on the 14th of February 2011 citing pain and hypothyroidism reasons.

Ronaldo bought a controlling stake in his boyhood club Cruzeiro in December 2018 investing 400 million reais or $70 million. He stated he wanted to give back to Cruzeiro and take what they deserve before announcing agreement to sell ownership stake on the 30th of April 2024.
