On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 was released on the 11th of November 2013. It came out on the same day as a remastered reissue of Live at the BBC Volume 1, which had originally been released in 1994.
The album contains 63 tracks in total: 40 previously unreleased music performances and 23 speech tracks featuring in-studio conversation and banter with BBC presenter Brian Matthew.
The recordings on On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 span the Beatles' BBC Radio broadcasts from 1963 and 1964, with the earliest session broadcast on the 26th of January 1963 and the latest from late 1965.
"Beautiful Dreamer" had never appeared on any previous Beatles release. Many of the American rock and roll covers on the album, including songs by Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly, were never recorded in a studio or released on a Beatles album during the group's lifetime.
Brian Matthew was the presenter of two BBC Radio programs, Saturday Club and Easy Beat. He appears on 23 speech tracks across the album, capturing in-studio conversation and banter with the Beatles between performances.
The album is available as a two-CD set and a three-LP vinyl set. A limited edition lithographic print was also made available exclusively through the Beatles' online store.
