Oliver Kahn is a German former professional goalkeeper who played for Karlsruher SC and Bayern Munich, and captained the Germany national team. He is regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, known for winning a record four consecutive UEFA Best European Goalkeeper awards and becoming the only goalkeeper in World Cup history to win the Golden Ball, at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
With Bayern Munich, Kahn won eight Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokals, five DFB-Ligapokals, the UEFA Champions League in 2000-01, the UEFA Cup in 1995-96, and the Intercontinental Cup in 2001. Jurgen Klinsmann rotated the Germany number one position between Kahn and Jens Lehmann of Arsenal during the build-up to the 2006 World Cup to stimulate competition. On the 7th of April 2006, Klinsmann announced Lehmann as his first choice. Kahn accepted the decision, embraced Lehmann before the quarter-final shoot-out against Argentina, and publicly praised Lehmann's two decisive penalty saves in the post-match press conference.
Kahn earned 86 caps for Germany, 49 of them as captain. His final international appearance came in the third-place play-off on the 8th of July 2006, a 3-1 win over Portugal, in which he started and made several key saves despite the absence of the injured Michael Ballack.
After retiring in 2008, Kahn worked as an analyst for German broadcaster ZDF and obtained an MBA from the Privatuniversitat Schloss Seeburg in 2012. He joined the executive board of FC Bayern Munich on the 1st of January 2020 and served as the club's CEO from the 1st of July 2021 until he was dismissed on the 27th of May 2023.
