Kodansha serialized NOiSE from the 10th of March 2000, to the 10th of June 2001. The magazine published chapters over this specific eighteen-month period.
The story follows Susono Musubi, a young police officer inside a post-apocalyptic subterranean city who investigates child abductions. Her search leads her to find a heavily toned down sword-like Gravitational Beam Emitter within that dark space.
A one-shot prototype titled Blame appeared in the book, debuting in October 1995. It served as an early test of concepts that would expand into the full ten-volume Blame! project.
Tokyopop licensed the manga for English release in North America and issued the single volume on the 11th of December 2007. Later, Kodansha USA re-released the work digitally on the 28th of June 2016.
