Hackers replaced all anime titles with a reference to Serial Experiments Lain on the 10th of May 2023. The breach forced the site to restore databases and required users to remake list updates, forum posts, or edits made approximately 8.5 hours before the incident.
Kodansha, Shueisha, and Shogakukan invested in MyAnimeList on the 18th of February 2021. Akatsuki, The Anime Times Company, DMM.com, and Kadokawa Corporation also invested by the 31st of May 2021.
