Matthew Jay Hullum was born on the 29th of September 1974 in Atlanta, Georgia. He later attended the University of Texas at Austin where he began experimenting with video content.
Hullum co-founded the production company Rooster Teeth in 2000 alongside Burnie Burns. Their first major project was the web series Red vs. Blue which ran from 2003 to 2020.
He served as the visual effects coordinator for The Faculty in 1998 and the visual effects producer for Driven in 2001. These roles provided him with technical experience that informed his later digital storytelling.
Hullum voices the character Sarge in Red vs. Blue and also performs as Doc, O'Malley, Wyoming, and The Meta. He has lent his voice to other projects including Code Monkeys, Gen:Lock, and Camp Camp.
It was announced in 2023 that Hullum would return as the director for the final season of Red vs. Blue. This decision marked the end of the series after more than two decades of production.
