Marcelo Cassaro, born on the 15th of August 1970, is a Brazilian writer and game designer known for creating Holy Avenger, the longest published non-child-oriented comic in Brazil, and for founding Dragão Brasil, the first Brazilian monthly RPG magazine. He is also one of the authors of Tormenta, the most successful RPG in Brazil.
Holy Avenger is a manga-style comic book created by Marcelo Cassaro and artist Erica Awano, published from 1999 to 2004 across forty issues. It was the first Brazilian manga title to sell thirty thousand copies each month and is the longest published non-child-oriented comic in Brazil.
Cassaro started Dragão Brasil in 1995. It was the first Brazilian monthly magazine specialized in RPG games and the only one to complete more than one hundred editions.
After leaving Dragão Brasil, Cassaro authored role-playing games based on the licensed video game properties Street Fighter, Final Fight, Darkstalkers, and Megaman.
Cassaro received the Ângelo Agostini Award as "Mestre do Quadrinho Nacional" in 2018. He and Erica Awano were also finalists in the First International Manga Contest held in Japan in 2007 for their work on Holy Avenger.
Victory, written by Marcelo Cassaro, was published by Image Comics and is identified as the first comic book with both Brazilian script and Brazilian art to be published in the United States.
