Lucius Antonius was the son of Marcus Antonius Creticus and Julia, a third cousin of Julius Caesar. He was also the grandson of the rhetorician Marcus Antonius Orator who had been executed by Gaius Marius' supporters in 86 BC.
Lucius Antonius held the consulship in 41 BC with Publius Servilius Vatia Isauricus as his senior partner. This occurred after he served as tribune of the plebs during the year of Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC.
Three armies besieged Lucius Antonius at Perusia in Etruria during the winter of 41 BC. The city was destroyed by Octavian's forces and Lucius was compelled to surrender though his life was spared.
