A Charan lady named Kunti established a small hamlet at the location that eventually became Kutiyana. This early settlement grew into a village known as Kuntiyana before evolving into the town called Kutiyana today.
Kalidas built a citadel called Kalikothi within the town during 1730-1740. He was a baniya from Ahmedabad who served as an official under Vasantray Purabia.
